So SARM squawks until trespass law is passed, then big game license purchases fall by 15 percent.
Now SARM complains about wildlife damage and Government says they are looking into depredation licenses.
my local zone had the cow elk tags around 100 each year,pasted two years the tags increased to 225
due to all the damage.
last years hunting season was a wipe out
too much snow,unable to get across the fields or even into the forestry
high cost of fuel
the cow elk also went nocturnal,so their numbers will only decline if they didnt make it
thru this winter due to the amount of snow
I contributed to the 15% drop in licenses last year, but not by choice. We were so busy at work, and shorthanded, that I simply could not get a single day off to go hunting. Worked every single day of the season. I wonder how many others in the oilfield were in a similar situation?
Last year was the first time in 40 yrs I have not purchased a single hunting license, for anything. I sure hope this year doesn't work out that way again.

Practically everyone has seen a decrease in hunters the last year or two and provincial statistics support this. People dying from covid/vaccines, social circles/friendships ending due to covid, unable to take time off work due to labor shortages, increased costs like bills and groceries and crazy fuel prices are a few legitimate reasons for fewer hunters being out there.
Fact is you're butthurt about the trespassing laws and have whined about it tons of times here. Now you're blaming it for lower hunter numbers.
Ontario had a steady increase of hunters and ticket sales for years, until the last year or two. Clearly it was saskatchewans trespassing laws which is causing a reduction in hunter numbers here too

License purchases had increased year to year for the past 12 years until last year. I guess it was just a coincidence that there was a 15% decrease the year the law came into effect.

If that same Joe doesn't ask you don't want him on the land.

Why do you allow him to hunt?
Not speaking for anyone else, but if someone doesn't ask, how would they know where the dwellings are? How would they know where the old wells are? Where the livestock is? I've had truck hunters cruise the treeline of my @#$%! yard while my kids were outside! These are the wastes of skin that ruined it for everyone.
Having said all that, if I came across a permission-less hunter on my land who was hunting on foot, he would be treated an awful lot better than one driving a vehicle.

Is it really that much of an inconvenience to have to ask for permission to hunt on private land? You guys in SK beat your chests that you're basically the Texas of Canada (after Alberta), yet when it comes to property rights you're like socialist Sweden.
If they were actually hunting that close to your yard they were already breaking the law before the new law was passed.
So you show every hunter where the old wells are when they ask permission?
Livestock is pretty easy to see.
They turned it into socialist Sweden when they asked the government to dictate who could go on the land instead of controlling it by posting it.
Too easy apparently, have had 2 cows shot by hunters. Yes I show them where the wells are, either in person or on the RM map if they come to the door. I have never refused someone who asked, but I have and will continue to chase off those who don't ask. If they can't be harsed to ask, what other short cuts are they taking? Too lazy to buy a license? Can't be bothered to open gates so cut the fence?

Likely is not hard - go to isc.ca, under corporations and use the search function - for most any entity registered in Saskatchewan. But sort of begs the question - some of us were raised that if it does not belong to you, leave it alone - so if you do not eventually get permission - for whatever reason - not sure that defaults to "must be okay to do" ...
