sask mag limits?

I think the problem here is that people are confusing the Firearms Act with Provincial Hunting Regs. FA limits a centerfire semi-auto rifle/shotgun to 5 rounds. There are legal "PISTOL" magazines ( LAR ) that will let you legally have a 10 round magazine in your rifle. You can also wind up with a 3 1/2" shotgun that will actually hold more than 5 rounds of 2 3/4" ammo, and is legal because of this.

This does not over-ride the provincial hunting regs. I am going from memory here so please be gentle, but I believe that for birds you are limited to 3 rounds (1 in the chamber, and 2 in the mag), and for big game it used to be 5 rounds. There was no requirement to pin the magazine, because with all the Lee-Enfields in Saskatchewan everybody would have been in violation, but you were only supposed to have 5 in the mag. Now, having said that, I haven't hunted Sask. for close to 20 years so things might have changed

KEPET is right big difference between hunting reg. and FA. However you must know both as The Fed. laws overrule the Province.
Only hunting Reg. I can recall and this was Early 70's are Quebec. That actually mention The .303 Enfield which at the time was exempt from the 5 round rule. A Garand in the FA. is exempt from the 5 round rule but was not in the Hunting Reg. It wasn't actually stated
anything about the Garand just semi auto so if we carried a Garand as a back up we found some 5 round enblocks to be safe. Quebec CO's were real assh---s if you spoke English. (start of the FLQ/PQ era.

I thought I remembered the same thing....that's why I asked the ol' dad. See post 18 above. He says follow the federal regs, and you're good with rifles, but when bird hunting it is indeed 2+1.

In all honesty, if you get more than 3 shots off at an animal then A. You're likely taking a shot you shouldn't be, B. It's probably one of those sunrise/sunset decoys, and C. You Suck.

Exactly. Those are either complete misses, gut shots, or if their lucky a scared sh!tless animal that's gonna taste tough and gamee.

In some situations in sask you could fire 50rds at a deer it's that wide open.... The 5rd rule helps conserve ammo when you don't realize your scope base is loose.....

Anyway in years past it said in the guide 5rds centerfire.

Now they are saying no such thing? So I don't have to pin my glock mags for my pcc to 5rds?

Check for yourself, I got the info from my dad via text. I'd hate for a misunderstanding to cost someone.

From what I can see, I'll be carrying my MH with 10 rounds of .260 in it, or maybe 5 to keep it simple, and cause I don't suck (that much).

I have a .303 Brit SMLE with 10 round magazine. And a Rossi M92 lever action that holds 12 rounds if I remember correctly. Both are legal for hunting in Saskatchewan. There is no Sask hunting regulation stating a 5 round centerfires hunting rifle capacity maximum, but there are federal firearms regulations that limit the capacity of semi auto rifles everywhere in Canada no matter if you're hunting or not.

I started hunting big game in Saskatchewan in 1972, and there was no such regulation then or since then. I was using a Winchester model 94 that had a 6 round magazine, and relatives were using the same Lee Enfields with ten round magazines, that they had been using since the 1950s.

There is no Saskatchewan law against magazines bigger than 5. Isn't now, and never has been.

There been some misconceptions about a few things over the years. When I was growing up everyone and his dog knew baiting was illegal, but it wasn't. There are still people that believe that if you post your land no hunting you can't even hunt it yourself. That's not true either.

What he said. Phone the Ministry of Environment's office in your region they'll let you know for sure.

[...], but there are federal firearms regulations that limit the capacity of semi auto rifles everywhere in Canada no matter if you're hunting or not.
Magazine limitation is not about the rifle, but the firearm the magazine was design for, eg. you should be able to legally hunt with a T-97 and 14 round of .223rem in a .50 Beowolf 5 round mag.

Just phone the co's in regina they are super nice guys. I have talked to them a few times and they have always been very helpful.

That hasn't been my experience with the COs in Regina.....

The COs in Leader, Swift Current, Maple Creek, Estevan and Yorkton OTOH have been pretty good.

It is my opinion, that COs of our great province have a large diameter stick inserted in a certain anal orifice once posted to the Capital City of our province.....

I could be wrong.

Wow went away and came back to this thanks for all the help.
Yes ten is excessive but I sighted in with the 10 and those who own m14 style rifles know they are the fussiest beasts you can own and the no3..... well it's a enfield grandad loves the enfield you don't touch that rifle.
