sask mag limits?

Had this exact same question the other day and was discussing it with my brother, have a MDT chassis on my coyote gun, wondered if I had to block a mag to 5 shots or not, not pin as only for hunting so was going to use a wood or plastic spacer of sort to limit the mag as always thought it was 5 rounds max for hunting in a center fire rifle, but could not find it in black and white anywhere. In the past have never used a gun that held more than 5 so never put any thought to it.

As mentioned is this just something that people always thought was true but is not? I also thought it use to be listed in the synopsis at one time but again could be wrong. In all honesty highly doubt I'll need 10 rounds in the mag and usually even if target shooting with it only load 5 to do a group but don't want to be sitting there arguing with some game warden who also thinks 5 rounds is the limit even though no such law exists. Would be nice to have something in black and white from the proper authorities on the subject.

The black, white, and grey is that there is no law, so it's OK. In a bolt a LEO would look like a fool. In a semi your still in the right provided your Mag was originally intended for a centerfire pistol, but you might need Tony Merchant to help the LEO understand the law.

There is no such regulation in Saskatchewan, and there never has been. As per usual, this looks like a case of someone seeing a five shot limit for semi autos in one province, then twisting it to all centerfires in all provinces. And then the people that are too lazy to look up the regulations for themselves , spread this rumor to more people until multiple people that don't know any better accept it as fact.

I would have to agree, seems to be just one of those things people spread with no actual fact to it, and I have never had any reason to put any thought or research to it until this year.

It's like the idiot that tried to tell us that we couldn't hunt on our own land, because it was posted no hunting or trespassing.

Our local officer actually told us that he had a hard time not laughing when some idiot called in to report a similar situation. Some people get pissed off when they are denied access, so they try and get even with stupidity like this. He told s that the caller did not want to believe that the landowner or anyone with permission could hunt on the land regardless of how the land was posted. Knowing the local officers not only makes field checks more pleasant, but it can provide some entertainment as well.

hence why i carry a zip lock bag with the relevant emails from government departments,DNR compliance regional managers (field COs boss) and RCMP bulletin 72.

Ya, I have my NR certificate for my MH on my iPhone.

Knowing the CO's helps a lot. Many of them drank many beers at our farm when I was a kid. Lots of good times. Not an invitation to break the law, but would definitely make a check go smoother.....

We would have far fewer people getting confused, if the people that really had no clue as to the regulations, stopped spreading rumors about the regulations.
 
Revive this old thread... now that .223 is finally a valid hunting calibre. I hope we see more 10rd pistol mags out in the wild.:d

I hope someday soon we'll see unregulated magazine capacity.
