Sask only...wild turkeys

there are turkeys in the cypress hills. Also along the frenchman river near eastend and by climax as well. There are also turkeys around gravelbourg. The ones around gravelbourg taste pretty darn good as a friend of mine raises them for the table.

Because there is not a season on them and they are a game bird....simple as that.

Nah, not so simple as that.

Each Province handles stuff differently. As far as I can tell you, Saskatchewan pretty much lists all the game birds and animals, and stuff that you find running about that is not listed, is pretty much treated as free food, as it is generally escapees from someone farm operation. That was how it was a few years back, anyway, when there were sightings of Bison outside of Peircland SK, as well as the boars running loose in the Quappelle Valley area.

Which is why I say that the SERM Office is the place to find out for sure. If the turkeys are escapees or illegally stocked, then they either won't care, or will encourage that they be wiped out. If they are a Legal stocking project, they will be protcted, though that seems an unlikely possibility, as folks are usually pretty public about efforts to establish populations like that.

Here in BC now, for instance, they have decreed that any animals not on their lists (Schedules A, B, and C), are protected on Crown land, but many can be shot if they are on private property. Ground squirrels, for instance. Others, not at all.

DO NOT shoot a wild turkey in Saskatchewan! This question was asked on a FB page and a CO chimed in and said you could not harvest them. If you are unsure contact SERM for clarification.

Just so I don't start another topic... what is the rule for giraffe hunting in Saskatchewan? There is nothing mentioned in the 2017 hunting guide
