Now that coyotes and ice fishing is done I took the day off from a busy work schedule to enjoy the spring air and search for some sheds. I was after elk sheds, saw a herd of 22 bulls a few months back but was unable to find any in the area I was. Did find all kinds of sign of them, almost every poplar in the area had been rubbed.

I did manage to find 2 small mule deer sheds and came across a skull of fairly thick old buck. He was very narrow, thick and tall. Wouldnt score much but who cares...thats hockey anyhow. :d

This south sloping hills were purple and yellow...had to snap a pic of a crocus...beautiful and tough flower considering its habitat.

My daughter let Dad take out her 10/22....Did'nt realize a cheap gun could be so much fun :d Was able to shoot some varmint. Shot one huge Jack and 6 gophers.

If anyone has some tips on where elk sheds are usually dropped I'm all ears ;)

Cheers!!

Fantastic.

Only the big bulls will have dropped their horns, the smaller bulls will still be packing. They could be anywhere between bedding and feeding areas.

So far in 2017:

44 Sheds
2 Dead Heads
5 Gophers

Last year I found a little over 100 sheds and killed way over 50 gophers! Thank god shed hunting and gophers exist or I would be pretty bored between hunting seasons...

Well done Sir!!! I wish I had more time to do this...its almost as fun as hunting deer/elk with a whole lot less work when u get home. Anything big yet??

Super fun, until the ticks get annoying haha! I've found some solid mule and whitetail sheds. I'd say a few 80-90" mule sheds and some very nice whitetail sheds including the set of the buck I was going after last fall, haven't scored the set yet but I'd say 150"+. I'm VERY lucky to have the access to land that I have, some monster mulies live around here and the population is very healthy.

+1 gopher I shot when I got home earlier!
