Saskatchewan big game draw results

the wife and i are drawn for moose cows & calves in 23 or 14a and antlerless mule deer in wmz 20.

we have never hunted moose before...we are stoked...

I was drawn for mulies in zone 44. I took my first whitetail there last fall and this year I get to go for both! You can't wipe the smile off my face right now!!!

I got drawn for Moose and Elk......
WOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

49a for Elk and 58 for Moose.

Next year should be antelope. I'm now in Super A.

If you hadn't guessed there is a grin from ear to ear right now. The 45/70 is going to get a work out this fall.

Refresh my memory, where's zone three?

To move the conversation along... what are your plans for your hunt this fall for whatever you got drawn for?

I suppose I can go first...

My friend actually got drawn for moose and elk just like I did. Elk in the same zone but moose one zone over... but still in the same area. For now we plan on tenting it and having some great times in the bush.

For me this will be my first elk trip and my first moose hunt so I'm just a little more than excited. I've hunted deer for years but never had someone to go afte big game with so this will be a very special season for me.

I was drawn for antelope in 2003 and again in 2007.
For the poster asking about zone 3 it is in the extreme south west corner of the province near Consul and Climax.

Good to see the draws are spreading the love around. My partners from Regina apply for zones on the periphery of the province and where the numbers look like good gambling odds. It means driving further and staying out longer, but the local economy benefits. Some of those zones have antlerless muledeer tags that are like the whitetail depredation tags in the mid-90's. If you have a licence for one, you can get licences for more 'skinheads' and yearlings.

We found elk was a tough hunt. They are big buggers but it is their forest and they can move faster than the wind. Try to still hunt them like you would stalk a whitetail in heavy cover. And whatever you do, don't over call. Our best luck was to post the nonmobile hunters on the field edge with other guys out for long walks, only one guy did the calling. One short snort at dusk, and at dawn he and a poster hammered a nice 5x5 who came out to see who he could scrap with.

I think that's our plan for now is to set some some calls the night before... just some for a few minutes.. and then come back to the same area in the morning.

Any other tips?
