Check out Saskatoon Waterfowl Outfitters, talk to Don. Awesome guy, great hunting. Nice to have the amenities of the city as well. You won't be disappointed.

You don't legally need a guide in Sask. and if you are an experienced waterfowl hunter you'll find a lot of birds. Anywhere in south central Sask mid Sept to the end of October. Look at Google maps satellite images where all the water is. Go to the rural municipality office and get a landowner map so you can ask permission. That's about all you need to plan a hunt besides your normal gear.
Thanks for your advice. I look up a few oufitter on the net but at around $1000 per day per hunter it is way out of my league

This. Small town hotels are very inexpensive. You can come early and do lots of scouting and secure some permission and you will still be way further ahead then hiring a guide. Plan on a combo duck/geese/crane shoot. There's lots of water around and ducks are plentiful. I would try around Humboldt if it was me.
Best advice you can get for a budget hunt! You'll see that there is no shortage of waterfowl if you do your homework.
I'll say this, I moved to Sk three years ago and I have had no issues with finding properties to hunt on. People here are genuinely nice , being from Quebec I was not used to it and it definitely took some getting used to (people are sometimes too nice?! To the point where it gets uncomfortable, like hunt my land, here's where the big bucks are, i'll help you put up your stand, ill check your trail cam for you and send you the good pictures, park your truck/trailer at the farm, come in for a shower, have breakfast/supper with us, here's a beer, etc... but I am in no way complaining, love this place) and will go out of their way to help you. Be polite and most landowners will give you permission especially for waterfowl.

don't just limit yerself to Ducks, several species of geese, cranes , ducks by the millions , is where I would go,

silly me I moved to the eastern side, before I lived here I didn't really hunt much waterfowl
but decided I would extend my season by getting into waterfowl hunting,
now its all I really want to hunt, heck I even invested in a pair of Chesapeake bay retrievers
there is no problem where ever I go to get permission, or to fill my limit on birds, lots of water , pot holes , ponds, small lakes, most days the birds co-operate but the odd day they just refuse to
Saskatchewan is a beautiful province , most people are great down to earth type of people, abundant in wild life, open sky's , wide open spaces
be nice show respect and you wont need a guide,
small town motels are reasonable priced, and local diners are loaded with great food
its a great place to be in the fall
oh and don't forget bug repellant, its also loaded with ticks and mosquitos
and bring two sets of clothes, because one day it can be +27 the next day it can be -27

Had the pleasure of hunting around Yorkton a few years ago. Have to agree with the posters above, the people in the area are super polite and easygoing.
Couple of tips however, permissions are harder and harder to come by. American hunters have discovered lots of areas and are actively hunting them. These gents are pretty serious and although they are not outfitters, they are willing to pay for the privilege of hunting certain sections, also add to that the bonafide outfitters who sometimes block multiple sections.
Another thing to consider is timing, it would be advisable to have direct contact with a local to find out when the action picks up. Although the area as a whole, is a waterfowl Mecca, show up on the wrong week and risk finding very few birds. Good luck with your planning and keep us posted!
