so...sent mine in 2 weeks ago...called at exactly two weeks the lady(very polite and helpful) says they dont have any record of receiving it. of course I sent it priority post...without the need for a signature...but when I log into Cdn post it say it was received by Miriamchi and signed for.

She put me on hold...spoke to another dept and said due to the back log it does not look like it will show up online for another two weeks. oh well...the 3 week timeline is now stretched to 4...not bad.

how have others in Sask or prairie provinces faired.

thanks

I think they say its standard to take 45 days to process. With a backlog, obviously more. Make sure you fax a copy of your range membership to the Sask CFO or it may delay processing as they are the final step in approving your license. Great people in the Regina office, very helpful. They approved my renewal while I was on the phone with them (called to check the status).

Canada Post said they delivered my renewal application on 14MAR2013, so I checked the CFC online for the status. It said it had issued my new license in FEB2008 and I should be receiving it soon. It maintained that position until 30MAR when it updated to say my application had been received in DEC2004 and was being processed.

Yesterday it updated again to say they had received my renewal application on 14MAR2013 and initial processing had been completed. I don't know what initial processing is, but all that suggests it takes them up to three weeks to acknowledge they have your application. And that meanwhile the CFC will be travelling back and forth through time, which must be rather interesting for them and is perhaps why these things don't get done sooner.

Pal/Rpal Mailed on Feb 1st Showed In Process at the end of Feb with a Received date of Feb 8th. All interviews were Done on March 12th was in my Mail box March 27th. So all in all not bad.

Yes its frustrating, their interwebz system either isn't updated regularly or they are a typical bureacracy (picture a dude sitting at his desk with his feet up trying to get pencils to stick in the ceiling tiles, then trying to beat his previous record). I went through the renewal process Jan-Mar, it was disheartening to check their website every day and see the same message. I'd suggest follow up calls, sometimes its a matter of lighting a fire to see some results. The federal office seems to be working on Ottawa time, but if you talk to the folks in Regina you will probably see some action. THEY are people who care about customer service.

Didn't know they needed the range membership to get the RPAL...it listed it but not a copy required. Are they not wanting that if I buy a gun?

The staff of the CFO office for Sask is generally very good, but they don't do anything with an application until CFC has it and realises they have it and starts the process.
An envelope containing documents can be in a basket in Miramichi for a while before it gets opened by someone and the information is entered into the computer systems.

It is understandable that in my example, until that was done the computer system show the status from my previous renewal application five years before. What is curious is that some time later it was changed to show the status of an application five years before that.

Sorry, I guess that was so they would process the LTATT at the same time. I shouldn't have said it was to finalize the approval. I'm assuming the purchase is for shooting rather than collecting. Hometownhero is correct about not needing a range membership for ownership.

so from what I read elseware it should take about 3 weeks to show up online....the lady said it might take up to 4 because they have a backlog...so hopefully it will be approved in 2 weeks after the 4. I will check next Thursday as that is 3weeks.

Mine took 3 months fairly recently, you know your at the half way point when they call your references. If it is the first time you have applied for any firearm license it might take longer. My buddy is still waiting, it's been 5 months so far.

Didn't ArmedSask go through this. Does anybody know what happened? ArmedSask?

I did at Christmas time as well. License was expiring at end of January, sent renewal stuff in early November...was told they would not process until I sent them a scan or fax of my 2013 range membership, which was kind of tough to produce, as duh, my range doesn't sell 2013 memberships until 2013. Membership cards were printed in mid December and I got the scan off to them just before Christmas. Things were approved mid Jan...I was getting a bit antsy by then.

Boy things change in a few year or so. When I got my pistol I called to complete the transfer and all they did was ask if i was a member at a range. I said yes and which one. That was all they wanted.
Is anything gonna be done about all these new rules? How can we combat this bs.
