Saskatchewan Spring Snow goose

Not so far in 'Toon. Haven't been out of the city limits for a few weeks.

A few hours later:

I took the dog to walk at Sutherland Beach off-leash area and there was a great racket like geese from the river where they typically gather on sandbars downstream of the 42nd St. Bridge. I looked out and they looked to be all white. So they are here.

In Eastern Ontario here (WMU 65) we have a new Spring snow goose hunt this year.
It goes from Mar 1st to May 31st.
So far i only saw one flock last week of maybe 30-35 birds.
Lots and lots of Canada's though.

There are zillions of the white geese all over southern Saskatchewan. I don't know anybody that shoots them. A lot of people would love to go out and have a good shoot, but most don't have shotguns set up for steel, plus a lot of people are leery of running afoul of some of the laws.

If the government wants to lower the population of snow geese, it will need to make it simpler to be able to shoot them. I should probably get my flame suit on! :nest:

There are so many snow geese now that, even if all of us armchair experts went out and shot until we were blue in the face, it would make little difference. Last Fall, when I was working at Gravelbourg, there were literally millions in just that area alone. Make them a pest like gophers, no limit, Australian rules, then have at 'er!!:p

They are stacked up from the #1 south. Should be a good season, they will be sitting unmolestered for a month by the time the season opens. Just hope some start moving into the Saskatoon area, only seen a couple hundred so far.

Lol... I am in 65... And I didn't know that... Looks like I am going on a goose hunt soon... Lol...

Must hunt on farm land only (no water bodies),
but we are allowed electronic callers with snow goose sounds
as long as you dont use Canada goose decoys if i remember correctly.
The regs are from the Migratory web site.
