Saskatchewan town calls in coyote hunters

A Saskatchewan town has asked hunters for help amid reports that unusually aggressive coyotes bit at a small girl's pants and carried off a pet.

Officials in White City, just east of Regina, said two hunters volunteered to track down the animals.

Howard Slack, the town's deputy mayor, said on Wednesday that one hunter killed three coyotes on Sunday alone.

Earlier in December, a six-year-old girl waiting for a school bus said a coyote tried to bite her.

It sunk its teeth into her snow pants before she and her sister managed to scare it off and ran home to safety.

A few days before that, a coyote killed a small dog in nearby Emerald Park and carried it off as the horrified owner watched.

It's not unusual for coyotes to nose around urban areas in search of food.

But people in and around White City said the animals seemed to be getting bolder and some had apparently lost their fear of humans.

Farmers were also concerned, saying coyotes posed a serious threat to their livestock.

Slack said the town would call in more hunters and trappers if the coyote problems continued.

This town is full of hippy tree huggers and now their kids are being attacked by coyotes they want the help of hunters. No way!!!

Cheers!!

Don't judge too quick, maybe they will repay you with some free love.

I'm with scott r on this one forsure. Tree huggers have to go , also I am tired of people posting land and complaining about hunters. I actually was told last fall that the hunters ruin all the grid roads because they travel on them in the worst conditions. Now this was a farmer, and before you judge me I grew up on the farm and worked there for about 15 years. But this joker that said this has no problem waiting for the biggest rain fall of the year to haul bales with a tractor and trailer down the road because its to wet to bale. He also has all his land posted and would not let me or anyone else hunt there. Then when the elk are into his hay stacks he got a game fence from serm??? He should have got a kick in the ass!! Sure glad my habitat money is going to good uses NOT

It would appear that coyotes, like the rest of rural Sk., has moved to the city. Imagine little Fido and Kitty getting munched on by a wild animal. Never happens on tv. Yotes snapping at a kid is not good. I think cities should be fenced, not to keep wildlife out but rather to keep the people in.

Pay for my gas and i'll definitely try pack a few coyotes, hope they dont object to a 22-250 going off near their executive rancher homes!

These yotes are in my back yard. Not kidding I live 2kms southeast of White City on 1/4 section. There is a big valley between me and town and I hunt the valley often. Missed a yote there the thursday before these other hunters came in. Not impressed with the fact that these guys were paid. They volunteered to get paid to do it. I am right here and do it for fun and nobody approached me offering money. Everyone knows i do it because every other day I am out there and most of the time it is with my 300wm.
In November my St. Bernard got bitten in the hind leg by a yote not a 100 yards from the house. Some mornings I wake up and catch them eating scraps that I put out for the dog. Oh well I will get them in due time.

We have problems in Airdrie as well. Mr inlaws' farm is just outside the city. They have a house rented out on the property. The renters had a ####zu killed by the Yotes not too long ago (good thing?:D ). I've been out a few times but haven't had any good shots.

hey boys and girls:D i got an idea;) go get them yote,s but only if they allow you to take your hand guns;) as a safe guard for you to protect your selves;)
