I set up 12 shooting stations throughout our wooded coulee with various paper targets of small critters. 4 out of 5 of my grandsons (youngest decided not to shoot) hiked through the coulee to find and shoot the targets. My oldest granddaughter and my 2 sons and daughter also tagged along on the hunt. All guns were carried magazine out/bolts open between target stations and at each target one shooter at a time loaded one shell and fired. Was a great time!

Good job, grand pa. My 8yr old commented that one of the rifles looked like a wooden Ruger 10/22. His only frame of reference is his own takedown 10/22 in stainless and synthetic.

That's a great idea. There's a gully beside my yard that would be perfect for this, and the kids love going down there and exploring. Would be a blast with the little single shot 22 I got for them. Thanks for the idea.

My 3 sons were shooting/hunting when they were about this age.NEVER EVER had any problems with them fooling with the guns while no one was around. They all told me that they KNOW what firearms can do so no monkeying around. They are now in their late 20's.One is an electrical engineer, the other a mechanical engineer the last one is a CBSA officer and they all still love to shoot!
