Hello,

I don’t usually write here but heck. I have a .308 parker hale mauser style rifle now and it’s my only one. I’ve hunted with it since i was 13 and that was 20 years ago. It hasn’t let me down but the accuracy seems to be worst every year that i shoot it. So i’ve narrowed it down to the sauer 100 classic wood stock and the tikka t3x hunter. The only thing i’ll do to the riffle is buying scope rings and put my nikon glass on it. Both are about 1000$. Help me out i’ve been wondering which one for a week now ahahah

Thanks

Flip a coin. Both are budget model rifles.
It would be best to find a shop that has both so you can handle them to see which one fits you best.
Appearance goes to the Sauer for me.

I have both , a Sauer 100 classic wood stock in 9.3x62 and a Tikka T3x in 30-06. the Sauer has a longer length of pull by 1 inch. They are both excellent and you can’t go wrong with either one. If I had to choose I’d prob take the tikka as it fits me a tiny bit better than the Sauer but that would be the only reason. They are both on par with each other in every other way.

as was suggested get the one that fits you best. In either model I would get a standard length caliber. Personally I'm partial to the Sauer. Plus MD Charlton is closing out their inventory of sauer rifles, so I would put the extra 2-300$ on glass. You can get a quote from any Sauer dealer, but I'd recommend Prophet River. They have a couple listed in the sauer->closeout section but you can email them with a request for a quote for a specific model.

Well i just bought the tikka hunter. The only thing that really made de difference is that the nearest sauer distributor is hundred of miles away. Thanks to all of you for your output.

I'd take that PH, have it bedded, clean the copper out of the bbl and maybe put another scope on it. I'd bet that it shoots well again.

Saying that, a Tikka T3 is never a bad choice. Get that 308 going again and buy a smaller caliber in the T3 to mix it up a bit.

I’ve bedded the ph and it has a boyd laminate grey stock on it. It’s really a nice riffle but 2 to 3 inches group at 100 yards is a bit much. It’s a 1961 it’s going in the gun case on retirement

Well depending where you are and what you are hunting in Quebec(originally for there) but 30-06 is capable of fairly long shots, especially on white tails and caribou!! Moose up too 200 easy with the right bullets and the right load!!
Good luck with it!!

funny about caribou in quebec. lucky in those days were the caribous were in big herds we never shot them in long range and i had a few hunters that came with long range rigs ...

despite short or long action i do really like the 308 with the tikka t3x ...
