Sauer 100 or tikka t3x hunter

Change of plan, the store i bought the tikka t3 is sold out on t3x hunter at 970$. I just got my money back so i’m getting the sauer by default ahah. We’ll see how that goes. Kinda happy since the sauer has a longer LOP and the fact that im 6ft4

Nice! Let us know how you like it.

Well i got the riffle and all i can say is I weirdly love it. First, the action is really really really smooth. The trigger is perfect. The 3 way safety needs to get a little bit used because of the spring in it but it’s real good. The only real downside is the stock. The wood is not really heavy for a guy that’s used to shoot 1970’s riffle. I’m pretty sure the final sanding
Of the stock is handmade since i found some parts that were unequal. I think i’ll deassemble the action and work a little bit on it. But i think that for 1000$ The action and barrel only are worth it.

I recently bought a Sauer classic xt synthetic in 6.5x55 from PR. $799 sale price and free shipping, PR was great to deal with. I have not had a chance to try it out yet but am quite impressed with the build quality and features, especially from a German manufacture at a bargain price. There has been some confusion on the internet whether the barrel is threaded or press fit in the 100 model. On mine I can clearly see the barrel threads through the front scope base mounting hole so it does appear to have a threaded barrel.

I have both (Tikka 6.5x55 and Sauer 100 XT .30-06) and its a tough choice, my opinion:

Stock: equal quality and stiffness, the Sauer shape is nicer to me but thats entirely personal. The LOP on the Sauer is long, but I am tall with long arms. The T3 and Sauer have harder recoil pads, the T3x is softer.
Magazine: the Sauer holds 5 and is flush, the Tikka holds 3. The Sauer can be loaded through the ejection port, the Tikka can't. No winner ITO mag latch and seating.
Action: Tikka is smoother, in travel and when locking into battery, but Sauer is still smooth and mine only has about 40 rounds through it. The Sauer needs a bit more force to lock into battery and is not as fluid, it pushes against the bolt release spring which makes it feel likes its catching on something. Sauer has a much bigger ejection port than a T3.
Trigger: both are very good but the Sauer adjusts to a slightly lower pull weight, at least from what I can feel (not measured).
Bottom metal: Sauer is aluminum, which I think is nicer than the Tikka plastic, but the Tikka hasn't presented any problems.
Safety: I prefer the Sauer 3 postion but nothing wrong with the Tikka 2 postion.
Accuracy: can't tell the difference, both are excellent, both shoot well sub-MOA with loads they like.
Weight: Tikka is definitely lighter, although the Sauer isnt exactly 'heavy'.

My Sauer was $729 on sale, possibly the best value I have had in a rifle in a very long time.

I agree with all your points. I have a 30-06 T3 and a 9.3x62 sauer 100. You’ve hit all the nails on the head with your comparison. Either one a guy can’t go wrong.

It is threaded for sure, they use a separate collar for the bolt lug recess (i.e. not milled into the action or the barrel). The barrel screws into the action and jams the collar between the action and barrel. The 101 is press fit and the bolt locks into the barrel extension.

Handle them both if you can, take the one that feels better. A friend of mine has a Tikka T3 Hunter (6.5x55) and that Sauer (I think in .243Win.) They are both at least as good as you need them to be. (I think he likes the Sauer a bit better, but he's not selling me the Tikka yet.)
