Sauer 202 7mm rem mag accuracy issue.

Just got my Sauer 202 in 7mm rem mag, tried it out, 1.5 moa at 100m and 4 moa at 200m is the best I could do!?!

The rifle is new and I tried one type of ammo, Hornady sst 160gr. I am planing on trying different makers for ammo and maybe the shooter's lack of experience with magnun ammo has something to do with the lack of accuracy, I am used to shooting a 308 bolt action and a 3006 semi auto and a bolt with a recoil supressor.

All the screws on the scope have been torcqued and lock tite applied.

What kind of accuracy should I expect? I was expecting a Sauer to do 1moa on most ammo with sub 1moa on a few good factory loads.
 
I bought a Browning X bolt 7 rem mag last year and ran a number of different factory loads through it getting it ready for moose season. The Hornadys gave me the poorest groups. Go get yourself a box of Federals and try again.

I suspect the recoil may be an issue, there is a significant difference between a 308 and a 7mm mag. When I moved up in recoil from a 30-06 to a 300 winny it took me a while to master it, and again when I have shot guns that kick harder than the 300.

With a mild cartridge, any issues you have with technique and fit can easily be overcome, when recoil goes up(not that a 7mm Mag is a heavy kicker) these things matter more.

Different factory ammo can also make a big difference.
 
Try a few different manufacturers as well as various bullet weights. Start from 140 and go up to 175, if you can find some. Might as well try a Federal blue box, you may be surprised.
 
I have a sauer 90 in 7mm rem mag and I use handloads in mine. 63 grains of reloader 22 with a cci 250 primer and a 162 grain hornady sst. I get half moa groups out of mine with the right weather conditions. Sub moa groups should be easy to get out of your rifle. I would try different ammo. Not all rifles like the same recipe. Could also be the shooter, since your not used to the rifle or the larger caliber
 
I will master the recoil with time, I chose 7mm over 300 win mag specifically because the recoil is easier.

Nipigon Jack, love that name, that's one gun I will stick with, never shouldered a rifle that felt so perfect and I did go a bit over budget on this one, Sako is what I had in mind. It has been over 20 years of buying and selling guns and the only thing I have regretted up to now is not going over budget for something outstanding. I am pretty sure I won't regret this one. you will be the first to know if I change my mind.
 
It will be fine. My friend's T3 in .300 Win was shooting 3" - 4" groups at 100 with Winchester 180gr PP. With zero load developement it shoots less tha 3/4" groups with two different loads (different bullets different powders) and none of the 6 loads we tried did worse than 1.5" groups at 100.

I suspect with tweaking the charge and seating depth each of the two best "test" loads will do 1/2" at 100. A far cry from where it started!
 
My LH Al receiver Sauer 200 in 30-06 bought in late 80' was solid 3/4" performer for 300-400 shots or so until receiver clamp broke off....After that the kid with slingshot would be more accurate.

I have a sauer 202 in 308 and it shoots around 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards with all the factory ammo I've used. All in all, a lovely gun.
 
You should have bought 7 savages for the price you paid for the sauer. They all would have been sub MOA lol. Sorry couldn't help myself.

Don't panic. You only used one ammo type so that just tells you that gun doesn't like those. My precision rig will shoot groups under 1" at 200. But if I use cheap factory ammo. One in particular, I can't get anything better then 2.5" at 100. Just buy some more ammo and see what it likes. Try different brands and different bullet weights. Or reload. With a gun at that price tag I would only reload.
 
I have Sauer in 300 WM and it don't like anything wil high velocity. It has a tigh barrel and it gets good velocity with standard ammo. Also good accurasy. Maybe something to consider .

Jeez, these firearms are top-notch where 1/2" groups are common. From what you mentioned, I suspect that it could be good "Ole Flinchitis." The 7mm Remington Magnum has been around for may decades where ammunition manufactures have perfected this cartridge to shoot. The SST is a very accurate bullet and suggest you go back to the drawing board (rifle range) and bear down this time...........take the recoil, it will not hurt. When I shoot off the bench, 90% is concentrated on trigger pull. Just slowly squeeze straight back, once torqued the POI will change. Bon Chance!!!
