Sauer 202 classic, how good are they?

I had a used Classic XT synthetic in .06 for 1 season. It was stoopidly accurate- no matter how poorly I shot or what ammo I tried. Superior fit and finish and overengineered.
My only gripe was the safety in the trigger guard. I just couldnt manipulate it quickly in the cold with gloves so I moved it on.
It remains the "one I shoulda kept".

Do they have the "plastic" mags, or the metal variety?
I had heard (hearsay only) that the synthetic ones may break .......

Yes, the (Sauer 200) magazine is made of metal exept the bottom cover of it. It works fine if you are handling it carefully but don't you dare to drop it on something hard.... the plastic lips are so tiny they break very easy.

Was it the pin or the bolt that jamed? I was hoping to use the Sauer on winter caribou at some point... Fluting the bolt would probably prevent it from freezing shut though I kinde of like the way it looks now. I will certainly test it in extreme cold before I take it on a sub zero hunt. Thanks for the heads up.

put the action in the home freezer at -18°c with the magazine and you ll see. this very easy to remove the stock.

i can even give you the name of the product recommended by Sauer : it s not working and it s even worst with the Sauer 80-90 actions. they re maybe nice actions and rifles (still in the eyes of the beholder) but not made for cold conditions.

What's the issue with the 80/90 and cold? I've had mine several times in -30 something on a snowmobile with no issues.

Bearkilr,

we re talking about sauer 202 but in this case the sauer 80/90 i will be more specific :

maybe you use a specific graphite "oil" ... otherwise if you look the way the bolt engage and feed (with this very smooth system) there is a problem when going in sandy area, and the friction made need oil (we all know that oil and cold dont mix very well) so you need a special not freezing oil or graphite.

for sand : trust me we had two rifles in africa and i never wanted to use the sauer 90 we had because even well taken care it was so odd ....

for the cold i was not even talking or thinking about -30°c ... but more snow and mixed rain in between -10°c ....

hope this help.
