I have the classic dilemma I own a sako 85 3006 and there is currently a sauer 3006 available. My sako is a great gun it is easily able to out shoot my skill level. I suspect the sauer will also out shoot my skill level and they are basically the same in terms of their functions. It is just a beautiful wood stock and sometimes that is nicer than synthetic.

Talk me into it or out of it. I have the money so it is not going to put me in to debt or anything I am just wondering whether that money would be better spent on some optics for my trudeau 308 paper weight.

Talk me into or out of it.

The Sauer has the quick change barrels I believe, and one of the smoothest bolts I have ever used . If it has nice wood how the heck can you resist!

Grab it

i remember a few years ago i was looking at a sauer outback in the 3006.it was nearly 2x the amount of my sako 3006 .

I had the Sauer 101 , Sauer 202, SSG 3000, Sako A7 Roughtech, end up with a Tikka CTR , out shoots all of them, by a mile, yes the Sauer 202 Wood was Impeccable , but would you take that Hunting?

Gks206, it is spelled and pronounced “turdo”, like a turd, but a prime minister. Capitols left out intentionally.

As for the rifle dilemma, go with which one feels better in your hands and on your shoulder.

Thank you for your clarification. Of course it goes without saying that such a firearm doesn't actually exist. Nor am I confirming I own any firearms on the list. It is all hypothetical of course.

I have an 85 hunter and a 202 outback in same calibre. The action on the 202 is smoother.
The 202 barrels are hard to find and pricy enough to not necessarily make it an advantage. The 202 has a set trigger which is nice but I don't use. Only consideration about the 202 is the safety is a button inside the trigger guard, which some people love and some people hate.

Although I prefer the Sauer 202, I wouldn't sell an 85 at a loss to get one.

Oh selling the 85 was never on the table.

I have a 200 in 3006 with extra barrels and magazines to do the various calibre conversions
I also have the 202 308 target rifle

I wouldn’t, but I’m in the minority I suspect. I now buy guns for specific purposes, so once I’ve got one I like that does a certain job I don’t bother with getting more of the same. I used to own a lot more until I realized that most just sat and took up space while a select few were the same ones I always took out.

Never handled a Sako. I have a Sauer 200 in 30-06 and also have a 25-06 barrel for it. Both easy sub moa and the smoothest bolt action I've ever handled. Have the flush 3 round single stack mag and the extended five round single stack. Great rifle. Don't hunt much anymore but still warm it up at the range occasionally.

I always wondered why Sauer never made a 10 round magazine for 200 series.
They made them for the 205, have a few of these magazines
Sauer told me that the law in Europe prevented it and a company in America used to custom make them in308 and 3006 length. Never found the company

Benchmark in the USA make magazines for the SSG 3000, which is the same as the STR and I think the Sauer 200. They made me a barrel for one of my SSG.
