. My gun was only a 3/4" shooter with the 168's as well. Try the heavies. You might be surprised.
I think Maynard has given you good advice. But like he said no one can tell you how to spend your money. If you do not listen to someone with his experience now, then you might just pizz into the wind with your next barrel also.

At this point, every 60-80 rounds.
So by the sounds of it, after just about every trip to the range? Stop cleaning it. Let it go 200-300 between cleanings. I have gone over 800 rounds and still won weekend aggs.
If you must clean, dry patch the bore and fire about 10 rounds out of it before you start your load testing.

OK. I will do that. I have cleaned and prepped 60 cases, sorted by manufacturer and weight class. I am going to my local gun store to pick-up some heavier bullets, and I will go back to IMR4895 to start. Thanks again.

Yes, I have tried 3 different depths, settling on the bullets seating about .18 from the lands.

Yes, I meant .018. I simply loaded a spent casing and bullet and closed the bolt to determine min seating depth and then arbitrarily set the seating depth to be just off the lands.

And yes I will try some heavies and slightly greater powder charges before I start experimenting with seating depth.
Sounds like a good starting point and that you have a sound plan.
I shoot a savage model 110 silouette , 22" barrel, ive been using AA2230C powder ,46gr, lapua brass, cci 200 primers, and 125 gr sierra pro hunter bullets, this is a very gd load, recoil is next to nothing, velocity is around the 3000 fps mark, accuracy at 120 yards was with 5 shots was roughly 3/4" , AA2230C Is similar to H335, which im finding the ball powders work much better in 308 than the stick powders, as ive tried IMR4064,IMR3031, also IMR4320,, Best groups with the stick powders was around 1"- 1 1/4" at 120 yards, the powders im finding most accurate, is AA230C, H335, BLC-2, H414, Load book i used was speer#14, though i did try the speer bullet 125gr sp and sierra, sierra shot better for me, just thought i would add to the thread,lol maybe some of the input will help someone, cheers!

I have with my Sako 85 Bavarian Carbine 30-06 ! If I can do it with a noodle barrel hunting rifle, I can do it with a purpose designed precision rifle. And no, you don't sound like a ####, as some (a lot?) people probably cannot shoot 3/4 MOA, let alone half MOA.

Going to the 100 yard range tomorrow. I will NOT clean. I will hold off on my OCDness.
I am still going to shoot 168 grain SMK's... at 41, 42 and 43 grains IMR4895 respectively. I want to ensure I tried some hotter loads before going to the heavies and different powders. Will keep the bullets seated at .018 from lands until all other variables have been ruled out. I am still keeping the bipod for half the shots, then sandbagging it.
