Purchased a supposed new Savage 10 BA Stealth and I noticed the bolt face. It seems odd that factory testing would leave this much deposit. Dealer says it's new but the bolt face looks very well used.20180727_161645.jpg
Just wondering if this looks like a factory bolt face.

That's way more than a test fire imo. I have about 3 boxes of .270 through my Weatherby and it still looks like new. If the dealer wont help you out with it maybe contact Savage directly. A friend ordered a bunch of mag parts for his directly from them and there was no issue with them shipping to Canada as of a few years ago anyway.

Looks better then some new savage bolt faces I have seen. I have seen them pulled from the box right off the ups truck and some look worse and some better then this.

might be a test fire failure.. Fire again to confirm not ammo. Then inspect, clean polish, fore again, then change barrel fire again.... I'm trying to imagine when prod goes bad, and your trying to salvage as much as you can, how many bad firings could you get? Could look like this.

PTG in oregon sells new savage bolt faces so an easy diy and faster and cheaper and easier than dealing with service and warranty.

Everything else looks new. I went to two dealers and all had mark's but not as bad as mine except a $1600.00 Savage 308.
Is it possible that some require more tuning? Here is Stealth bolt from Cabelas.20180728_113232.jpg
Seems to be missing a piece of its extractor compared to mine..identical gun caliber.

My Stealth looked a bit "used" as well, just on the bolt face. I think maybe it's the blueprinted action that requires more fitting?? Anyway mine shoots great and no longer cared about the bolt face after 20 rounds.

Looks normal. Test fired at factory including a proof round at around 1/3 overpressure that has a purple base color. Not sure if they still use purple but they used to. You can see the letters of the round and the color. Also, the new style extractors AND ejectors are angled.

Pretty standard for Savage, more than likely once the barrel was fitted and they did the test rounds (All new guns must be fired at least three times) it had to have the barrel re-head spaced. More then likely there was a chamber issue that required some work and multiple test firings. I Wouldn't be worried about it. This is how some new guns come. S&W is one of the worst offenders for pistols. I've sold so many M&P range kits and got the "you sold me a used gun" question so much. Just remember, they will function test the gun but that's is, cleaning afterward is left up to the customer. It can suck, but the gun is new.

Mine looked like that as well when I first got it. Was going to send it back to the dealer for exchange but they didn't have another to replace it with so just kept it
Haven't had any issues with it it shoots fine

Two of my Savages came like that. Rifles looked brand new otherwise and have shot amazingly well since then. Relax...
