Savage 10 BAS-K - What you guys think?

I said it once and I'll say it again......Man is it ugly. Looks like Savage took a Dewalt cordless drill handle, chucked the battery out, and glued it on the bottom. Then that buttstock thing is just butt ugly. It's probably going to shoot like a hot dam* but......fugly. Kinda like dating the fat chick in school. You had lots of fun when no one was looking.

Suggested Retail $1,852.00 :eek::eek::eek:

Jesus H Christ.....I looked at the picture earlier....not the price. That's a bit spendy for a Savage isn't it?

There is another thread for this rifle that was a bit more complementary.

However, the butt extension is silly making the back half of the rifle a heinz 57 of parts.

The top rail is really a long scope base with side rails. There is no front support so any accessory up on there will cause the rail to bounce. Might put some stress on them scope base screws. Might smack that barrel if the accessory is heavy enough.

Apparently, it shot well at the SHOT writers demo. As you would expect from new manf Savages.

Underneath all that alum is a good ole Savage 10 HB so no surprises there. The best part of this whole rig is that mag set up. That is what I want to see. What type of mag and how do they feed? How much money? Does it lock in place properly? Is it center feed and hold a OAL of 2.9 to 3.0"?

I also saw the US MSRP and given what our prices were BEFORE the dollar dropped, expect this to be pretty close to Cdn retail.

Sorry, but 1700 to 2000 for a restocked savage is not my idea of fun. In time, similar stocks will start poping up for several hundred dollars and you just restock your 12FV that you bought around $600. Throw in a few mags and you still have enough to buy some really good optics and/or a match barrel swap.

I am sure the Savage would have sold every single one they could have made before this econo crash. Now they will just have to work one shift.

I give Savage top marks for at least trying.

Seen the price of the new Palma?? yumpin' jeebas

...Z-24=lots of go-fasters on the outside, but it's still an econo-chevy on the inside

Well, they give you a decent stock (what's that worth?), competent action (no mucking about required - just to make bolt lift easier) and light match trigger (how much are 6oz triggers for Rem's these days?) and a barrel that can shoot 1/2 min or better. A bit of bedding and load tuning, it has been competitive with rigs costing 2 to 3 times as much.

Compared to building a Rem 700 or custom action to the same level, way less money.

I would say more like more Honda Sports sedan then Chevy family wannabe.

And like the Honda, a few tweaks and it will run with the big boys.

ENIGMATIC1; If the gun shoots like a Savage should, then great.

If you like the looks of the gun. Good.

If you can afford the gun. Great.

Other than maybe Mysticplayer's post, ignore the rest. Its your money.

Indeed. I'd bet dollars to donuts it would shoot.

Like it? Can afford it? To hell with what people say, go for it.

For 1800, I'd rather buy the McMillian 10fcp.

I do like it still.

Bite me.

Oh, and there was a thread that someone was able to get them and they were seeing who wanted them, can't remember who tho, I'll have to search.

Whose mag system is that? If it had the 26" barrel and no brake I'd be more interested but even I can warm up to it.

Anyone want to speculate who will be the first CGNer to own one?

Thanks Mysticplayer, Max Owner, Nine, MagnumPeanut, and BigUglyMan for the positive and useful replies.

I am thinking that function wise, this rifle is going to be hard to beat. I also don't mind the looks.

How many new bolt actions are there out there that give you a 10 shot magazine?

Finally, this is me assuming, but because this is designated as a rifle for Law Enforcement, it should be really durable, function flawlessly, and be really accurate. I am assuming again that you have to market a very good product for the LEO's to buy.

The bottom comment of that shot show link, one of the guys says Savage stole the design from here: (replace xx with tt)

I'm not going to lie... the slightly different Model 10 BAT/S-K does look very similar.
