I shopped around for a rifle for about a month - read every review I could find on ~$1000 rifles. Ended up buying a 700 CDL stainless fluted 300WSM for big game - a damn fine looking gun by the way! - and a Savage 10 FCP-K .308 to get started in long range target shooting.

Went to the range today to try her out and boy was I impressed. I have never purchased a high end $1500-$4000 ish rifle before so I can't compare to these higher end guns, but compared to lower to lower-mid end models in Browning, Weatherby, Sako etc this trigger is by far the best I've ever pulled. Can't say enough about it. This gun really surprises me at the $850 price point. Anyways 60 rounds isn't much of track record but so far it shoots very nicely. I can't wait to work up some different reloads in Lapua brass / SMK's.

The Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15X40 is excellent too. I can't think of a better scope for $350 -picked it up on sale.

If you are pondering the idea of buying one of these Savages, I wouldn't hesitate. If you have any experience with the gun or questions you are invited to post here about it!

I assume GMMK is Federal Gold Medal Match King or? Aren't those just SMK bullets in a federal case?

I have the 168 Match Kings going to load with Lapua brass. is there a reason those GMMK's are so good or? I was going to buy federal brass from Cabelas but every review I read was horrible, whereas Lapua brass was getting exc reviews so I bought that (at double the price, ouch)

SHHHHHHH SHUSH !!!

Best kept secret in guns. Wait 'til you try some GMMK or your handloads. Shoots great w/o the MB too.

Yes on the GMMK for a factory load. I use the SMK in pretty much any case except Fed. (I just seem to have more trouble priming the Feds.)

I like the GMMK when I don't have handloads ready, but IMO you are correct in the route you are starting.

I have gone to a FCPK in .223(the .308 wasn't legal for yotes here and it got little range time)

I believe you will be well pleased with the rifle.

Looks familiar.....different barrel and brake :)

Sweet! Love the bolt handle and the 50 cal sized muzzle brake haha. Appears to be a nice set of kit in the background there mister donut. Well prepared for a SHTF / Zombie invasion!! Me too

Edit: what safe is that? I like the layout on it

Very pleased with it so far. Thanks for the tip on the factory ammo! I'll pick up a box in lieu of my reloads just to have a comparable

What rail did you get for it? I picked up a Weaver specifically made for this gun for $35.00. Although still tinkering with scope placement. May need to move it back a cm...after I used lok tite on all 12 of those damn screws too.... let us know how you like the gun once you get out and shoot it!

Try Norma 168gr Match Grade Custom for excellent accuracy out of the box ammo.

Bought my son a 10 FCPK with a McMillan stock, fantastic shooter and got it used but in like new condition at a steal of a deal.

Does the FCP-K have the side bolt release?
I'm assuming it has a 1-10" twist?
How about 5R rifling?

The reason I'm asking is that I own a 10BA which I love.
I believe the FCP-K is the same rifle as the 10BA without the chassis.
I'm about to receive a 10TR which has a bottom bolt release but I'd love another side bolt release that I could put in an AICS chassis.
