Congrats,
I have the same rifle and it did pretty good with the Berger VLDs too, but it did even better with the 69gr Sierra MK's. Have you tried those yet? I also had really good luck with WIN 748 and Benchmark behind both bullets.

Good God, A Savage, how could you. What a horrible group from a rifle costing thousands less than the required $ 6,000.00 required to shoot cute little groups. You must sell it right now, for half of what you paid, and purchase a rifle costing thousands more (See above) and far less accurate!! LOLOLOLOLO

I tried Varget with both bullets and (for me anyways) it was third most accurate in both cases. Same with the 75gr A-max's although they might be a little heavy for my rifle anyways. They wouldn't shoot less than 2 inches until I was at or above max loads.

EDIT: I just went and checked my records and it seems, I did really well with BL(C)-2 behind the Bergers as well. Good luck.

The 75 gr or 77 gr HP BT match bullet (Hornady or Sierra) will easily stablaize and have good wind bucking. The Sierra 80 works well if loaded hot. I would not bet on the Berger working, but if it does, great. probably would not work in colder weather.

if you are serious about performance, the powders you want to try are N140, n150and the double base cousins - N540 and N550. They cost a bit more but really perform.

A Savage 10 FCPK will be my next buy in .223. I just have to sell a few sitters and it will be mine :).

I have a Savage in .22LR with the Accu-Trigger, that bolt-action rifle is a lot of fun!

Way to go for the grouping!
