Ok here goes, I have been doing my research and looking at about 15 different reviews and still can't find the answer to my question, so to CGN I go.

I own a Savage Axis, it has the top "tang" safety on it. Its junky piece of plastic that makes me want to smelt the rifle every time I touch it... (good thing its more accurate than I am... and brings home the venison.)

I am looking at the Savage 10 TR 5R with a 24" barrel, I see it has the same location of the safety. Is it the SAME safety as the Axis, as this would drive me nuts on a close to $800 firearm?

Also any other tips, facts, personal experiences with the 10TR would be appreciated.

Yeah, thanks for that...

I have gone through all 1085 replies to that thread and found plenty of good gun #### picks, anecdotes, things to look out for, and general knowledge. However not really anyone talking about the safety.

No I do not.

They are different I believe, mine are all 3 position or what some call locking. HOWEVER, I ran by the gun shop Friday and picked up a mod 10 mag. they had for me.

When I got home and opened the bag it said mod 10 savage etc. and in fact it fit a mod 10 they had on the rack but not mine SO...
Savage changes stuff and it is a challenge to keep up with them all EVEN in the same model

So take my comments as my honest belief based on owning several Savage Mod 10s, 110s etc.

I do own both guns, the axis has a plastic 2 position one and the 10 TR has a 3 position and is in metal and smaller. There is no downside for each safety for me because I don't use them and if you practice muzzle control you don't need it in the field.
