How do you know it wasn't Epps marking it up? I don't know any LGS that buys used guns and doesn't mark them up for profit.
How do you know it wasn't Epps marking it up? I don't know any LGS that buys used guns and doesn't mark them up for profit. Besides, I don't think Mil/Le guys are so hard up for cash that they have to buy a rifle only to turn around and flip it for $100 (Don't forget, there's tax, shipping, and the LGS has to make a cut on the used gun as well).
It's not a limited edition, vintage, brand new in box Spock action figure with Leonard Nimoy's signature and blood sample on it, it's a limited edition rifle that probably won't be so limited when Savage changes their mind (like Remington and Aimpoint with their "LE/MIL Only" items), realize the 10TR is a money-maker and begin to sell it en masse to everyone.
If they really needed the money and wanted to profit from it, they should have marked uit up to $1,000 and sold it on EE, haha!

Yeah, I had some unplaned expenses and tought about selling the 10 TR on order. Listed on the EE for $800 this afternoon (thats about $75 more than my cost after shipping & tax). Finally decided to keep her. Aint worth it to get PM's telling me that it's a $599 rifle them thinking I should sell it at a loss.
I sold mine for the same price I bought it for + shippng. Thats a d!ck move otherwise.

The Savage Model 10TR rifles that were recently sold through Ellwood Epps were rifles that were previously sold to former LEO and military personnel customer, but who, for reasons not asked or disclosed to us, elected to trade those guns back into our store. We relisted those rifles as being in Excellent condition, as both units were returned only days after the purchases were made.
There was no effort to undermine the Savage offer to LEO/military sales only on these rifles. Once a firearm is returned to our store, it becomes free and clear to be sold to any buyer, regardless of their employment history. The price of $799.00 was justified against the price of a standard Savage Model 10 Precision Carbine (cat #19626 @ $906.25 new), and a Model 10 FCP HS Precision Law Enforcement rifle (cat #18139 @ 1,212.20 new).
Yes, two lucky customers did manage to purchase those guns at very reasonable prices, and are now proud owners of somewhat exclusive Savage rifles not readily available to the general public. If additional examples do arrive in our store as trade-ins, they, too, will be posted for sale, and you, too, can purchase one of these guns, provided you are the first to contact our store to do so.
As always, it pays to keep a watchful eye on our website. You never know what might show up!
Thanks for enlighten us Harrier .45, I was thinking of a trade in + markup for the exclusivity and this is exactly what happened. As a few of you said, business is business and if there's a market for the 10 TR for civians @ $200 over retail each, some dealers are "smart" (the term smart may be interpreted as sarcasm depends on your point of view on the subject) enough to take advantage of it. Well played. After all, we are living in a capitalist Country!
Not like the EE at all. On the EE you have sellers trying to get prices far in excess of what the identical gun can purchased for from other sources. Stupid? Maybe...until somebody who has done zero research pays that price. Who's stupid then? Caveat emptor.
In this situation, you'll see two people who aren't whining. They are the lucky two who got to purchase these rifles...rifles which would not otherwise have been available to them. I would bet good money that every one of the whiners here would have jumped on that bandwagon if they could have...I know I would have! The dealer made some profit selling them once, and then made some profit a second time? I would hope so! Pretty stupid to try and run a business any other way. The sad part is that they actually need to explain this to so many CGN members, who apparently forget that successful gunshops, like any other business, must make money. They're not charities.
And so what if the original buyers of these guns made a few bucks? If you buy a gun at a good price, keep it for a period of time (a day, a year, a decade...makes no difference), and then decide to sell it...what should you charge for it? What it's worth, obviously! These guns sold almost immediately. If they were overpriced, that wouldn't happen. The original buyers got a deal on them thanks to Savage (kudos to them...they should offer a special price on all their products to LEO/MIL), the dealer made a few bucks, the sellers made a few bucks, and the new owners are happy with the deal they got. It's a win/win/win...no downside...except, of course, here on CGN, where the philosophy seems to be "WE are not happy until YOU are not happy!"
