Long story short:
I bought a 10BA in .308 in Dec 2011. After shopping around for a scope for some time I only had it out at the range 3 times for a total of about 350 rounds in the year since I bought it. I initially cleaned it and then cleaned it after every use.
Since my range only goes to 100yds I wanted to try it out at some longer distances. I arranged with a buddy, who is a member at a longer range further away, to make a day of it and bring the rifle out. So after making a special trip, paying the drop in and getting it sighted for 200yds we get about 40 rounds down range when the trigger siezes. It is stuck back and the safety will not disengage it nor will cycling it, it is just completely stuck. This had happened once before but I didn't think anything of it because cycling it seemed to fix it.
So after that range trip being ruined and some swear words on the ride home I took it in to the store I bought it and the diagnosis was a broken/stripped sear(can't remember the exact term). This just happened to be days before the 1 year warranty was up. I was assured that Savage quality controls were second to none but sometimes you get a problem. I have since read of some issues with the Accutrigger that the 10BA uses.
So, it was agreed that this was a warranty issue. I had two options:
1.Send the entire rifle to Savage from BC to Ontario to be repaired under warranty, but at my cost to ship(about $75 the store told me).
2. Have Savage send the part and be installed by the gunsmith at the store all at my expense, which could work out to be the same or more. This would not be a warranty repair as Savage would not be repairing it themselves.
I went with option 1, grudgingly. I feel ripped off in this deal having barely broken the rifle in and for it to fail like that.
So,
Would there be any chance of success contacting Savage, explaining these circumstances and being reimbursed anything or something for the shipping? I'm guessing not, but thought someone might have a contact or first hand experience.
Also, does anyone have any advice for the Accutrigger? I have since read on some other forums that adjusting the pull has alleviated the problem of the trigger getting stuck.
As it stands this will be the last Savage product I buy, but really I just want my rifle back and for it to last for many years, as it should.
Thanks.
