Savage 10FC vs 12FV??

Hello besides the price difference, what make the 10FC more "tactical"? Is it a more accurate rifle? I was just wondering about the 12FV in particular what accuracy is like?

I've had a 12FV before and it was a tack driver at 200 meteres and very accurate up to 1km. I now have a 12FVSS and it is the same!

There are a lot of people who would say the Savage is more accurate out of the box.

12FV is a very accurate rifle

The Savage out of the box will be a better shooter than the Remington (usually). If you want one to make better with the help of a smith and lots of monies, than the Remington will prolly be a better choice.

Savage 10 vs Savage 12

I have a Savage 10 FP in .223 and used to have a 12BVSS in the same calibre. As far as I could tell they were very similar rifles. The main differences were that the 12BVSS had a 26" tube vs the 24 " on the 10 FP and the 12 came with a vastly superior stock plus the overall finish/appearance seemed better in the eyes of some. I replaced the cheap stock on the 10 with a Choate Tool Ultimate Varmint stock and that is the rig I ended up keeping. My buddy liked the 12BVSS a lot ( appearance etc ) and took it off my hands. Accuracy wise I found both of the rifles to be excellent out of the box and consider them good value for the money.

The only difference between a 10fp and 12fv is that the 12 has a 26" barrel compared to 24" for the 10fp. This makes the 12 a bit heavier and less maneuverable, but you could squeeze a bit more bullet speed out of a longer barrel.

The 10fp also comes with a matte finish (not shiny, hence more "tactical"), where as the 12 is glossy and the bolt is metallic and reflects sunlight like a mirror.

The action and stock are the same, but price on the 12fv is less than the 10 usually. If you want to carry around your rifle and want the "tactical" model then go with the lighter 10fp. If you just want it for stationary target shooting then go with the cheaper 12fv. This gun is indeed accurate.

I went with the 12fv in .308 . (now with bell and carlson stock)

PS: Hopefully you can find the one you want in a store near by, that can be the biggest challenge.

At the range on Saturday, I shot 1" groups with my 12FV in .223 (4/5 shots. Always seem to pull the last shot) at 300 yards using only a bipod and no rear rest. This was with 69 grain Sierra HPBT's and 25.6 grains of Varget powder, seated for 2.260" O.A.L.

All in all, an amazing sub-MAO rifle. Even with 55gr factory soft points, I was getting .556" groups at 100 yards.

I can't speak for the 10FC as I haven't encountered one, but I definitely plan on getting ANOTHER 12FV in .308 eventually.

Savage discontinued the blue 12 FV in .308 but the SS is still available.
