Savage 10FP: McM 26" or HS 24" ???

The feel of the 10FP H-S is better than the Mcmillan one...However, the 26'' barrelled Mcmillan should have a bit more velocity in the long run.

A69,

Thanks. In my hand the HS felt better too. I liked the beefier fore-end. Although I like to think I'll be shooting out to 1000 yards, I would imagine the majority of my shooting will be 500 and under.

Went to plop down my hard-earned cash on an HS Precision at Wholesale today and their inventory was not accurate. The one that they apparently had in stock was nowhere to be found - DOH!

I may have to "fall back" to the McMillan. Hopefully they'll still have one of those when I drop by tomorrow...

It's probably because I bought it first...:)

M.Sparkle...There is 1x McMillan & 1x collapsable Choate in .308 left..the other FP is .223 Choate...

How I know this...It's a secret!! :)

McMillan's the better of the two anyhow. ;)

I realized if I'm going to make such a broad comment... it should be backed up. The reason I prefer the Mc'bros is the fore end, it has a constant taper, you can use that to adjust elevation by sliding it on a bag or rest. Lean into the rifle forward slightly for up, relax back slightly for down. Also, I prefer the grip angle and geometry of the Mc'bros. That said, I shoot an HS on my custom M700. :p  :runaway:

A69... Thanks! I'm in Calgary. I tried to get the "remaining" (read: non-existent) last HS from Wholesale in Edmonton, but no luck.

P&D's inventory also shows an HS, but their prices are a tad higher than Wholesale's... I'm going to have a re-look at the McM.

I think Calgary may have a McM or two, so I'll stop by there tomorrow.

I'd go HS- it should ride a bag better on both the forend and butt, and not throw you off target as much as the more angled macmillan.

Just got the McMillan and I am shooting 1/2" 5-shot groups with 190 gr. Sierras at 2550 fps. I am very impressed and pleased with my choice!!
