Savage 10TR le/military

If given the choice which would you mount and why? Lol

Vortex crossfire 6-24x-50 mil-dot

Or

Vortex viper 6-20x-50

I am new to distance shooting, but have these 2 scopes available to mount on this rifle. I'd like to think the higher magnification?

I am also relatively new to long distance shooting but I have done a 2 day precision rifle clinic shooting out to 600y and even with my Bushnell elite tactical 6500 4.5-30 x 50 I wasn't using anything over 16x magnification.

On a 300y course of fire I cross fired onto my neighbours target using too much magnification.
Field of view is everything.

If you look at what the military and law enforcement use on .30 cal rifles you will see that it's mostly 10x or 15x magnification.
Their rule of thumb is typically 1x per 100Y or M.

For shooting at paper off a bench or prone I do prefer higher magnification but it is not necessary.
If one scope has better glass that's what I would go for.

If anyone cares, I went down to Cabelas today and checked out the "Cabelas Exclusive" version of the 10TR. It was pretty much a 10TR for $599, and near as I can tell. The only thing different was it did NOT have the threaded barrel to accept muzzle devices, everything else was pretty much the same. Not sure if Cabelas Canada will get this version.

24" or 20" barrel?

I got my XLR Carbon Chassis from Kyle last Friday, but didn't have time to post any pictures until now. Anyway, the chassis is a beaut. It came within just a few days of XLR sending it out. It was well packaged, and it was like Christmas. Two screws to take my 10TR apart, 5 screws to mount it in the XLR Carbon Chassis. Spent about 10 minutes to git er done.

The chassis is sooooo light, and if it wasn't for the 10lb brake I've got on the rifle, this system would probably be pretty light, light enough for someone to lug it around and hunt with is my guess.

The materials feel sturdy, as if they could take a beating. Everything fits nice and tight, everything literally dropped right in place, as if the chassis and rifle were manufactured as a set.

My chassis has an enlarged hole for the trigger to pop through, and allow for access to the bolt release. It's not exactly easy to access, but it can be done with one hand while the other is pulling the bolt out. I'm not 100% sure if there's more I was supposed to do, but it doesn't look like there were any more parts I could take from the Accustock to fit to the chassis.

I got the folder option. Didn't really need it, but I thought it would come in handy when I wanted to take the bolt out for cleaning, but it turns out there was enough clearance anyway. No problems, like I said, it locks in the closed position solidly. The only downer is it doesn't lock in the open position.

What else, oh, the EGW 0moa scope mount. It does interfere with the hand guard. I was going to get a 20moa rail, but I don't have a day off for a month anyway, so it won't be going to the range anytime soon. I know the TR shot awesome before the chassis. I don't see how it could make it worse. Anyway, the rail didn't work, so I was going to pull it off and saw off the tip, but then my buddy Jay suggested I just reverse it so we tried it. No visible gaps, locks down nice and tight, doesn't interfere when working the bolt. So, threw on my 6500 mounted in the Burris PEPR mount. Seems to be okay. I had a 5-15 Elite Tactical on there before, and it was okay, but I just wanted something with a bit more magnification.

Anyway, tons of pics:

That looks awesome! Thanks for posting! Makes the wait for mine even harder!

The bolt release mech looks different on the non-carbon. I cannot see the little release bolt on the right side of your trigger guard.

That looks awesome! I'll have to post pics of mine when I get my XLR Chassis sorted out. I got the stock and tube, but they were the wrong colour. I'm going to check the dimensions, as it's possible they sent me the wrong one! Anyway, nice choice, I picked the "Tactical Evolution" as well. The non-carbon isn't the skeletonized design, but it does feel super light as well.

Post some pics of the Evolution! I'm curious how they handled the bolt release for it, maybe there's something else I'm supposed to do?

This is from another forum, but I believe this is the release on the Evo for the bottom drop release.

I think they may have sent me the wrong chassis, haha! I better check with Kyle. Mine didn't have the latch like the one in the Evolution. I can still access it, but it'd be easier if there was a switch of some sort like the one in the picture.

Perhaps it isn't there on the "lighter" stocks.
