Savage 10TR le/military

i wouldnt worry "that" much about the scope. I had a cheapy ebay leupy mk4 clone on my stevens 200-223 for years and it functioned without issue. Just the rings you picked give me pause to worry. Good luck though and good shooting.

My 10 TR: Please excuse the metro ###ual back drop.... LOL didn't feel like breaking out the cammo. The scope is a Sightron SIII 6-24x50LRFFP/MH MRAD. Im just waiting on some rings I've ordered and then action time. I replaced the factory installed 0 MOA base (with fire, tools and a lot of swearing :) ) with a 20 MOA. The paint job was done by one of my team mates.

Regarding threads strip out on cheap rings, are you speaking from experience, actually seen striped threads.

I happen to have some cheap rings on hand, just the right height, so slap them on my precision rifle. Now trying to decide if I should change them out for new rings and go through all the mounting and re-zeroing work or leave well enough alone.

I lapped my rings so fit is perfect :dancingbanana:
dont want to rain on your parade or anything but dude.

IMO, you got a sweet rifle and then went ultra cheap on the accessories. The scope may or may not hold zero/self destruct, but those rings? When upper end rings are $100+, like my TPS and good quality ones $50+ dont cheap out. Do you really trust those rings to be perfectly round, to actually be the correct diameter and not have burrs to mar the finish, or have the threads strip out?

buy once, cry once.

i had the cross bolt that holds it on the rail strip the threads on a cheap set of rings. Prob my fault for not having a torque wrench, but i dont feel i stressed it "that " much. Anyways, now i have 1TPS and 3 burris zee's with the offset inserts on my rifles. The rings have to hold the scope still, without damaging the tube and also maintain the position on the rail without shifting during recoil. For the price of 2 boxes of match grade you can get a decent pair.

Worst part is wasting ammo trying to zero, and thinking the rifle is meh, when the rings are the problem due to shifting.

It has been my experience never to go too cheap on the rings and base and believe me.... I'm of the opinion that getting the most value for my hard earned dollars is very important. The reality is these parts are the weakest link in the setup. Decent rings can still be had at reasonable prices by way of Weaver, Millet or even the mid range Leupold to name a few. If the rifle was a .223 I'd say fill your boots but with the recoil of .308 I'm not sure they will hold up long term. Just my $0.02 :) Cheers!

The gunsmith that indexed my muzzle brake also recommended the TPS, time to hunt some down.

Cost is minor factor. Dread the install as I use my complete kit with lapping, torque wrench everything correctly, leveling, locktite. Takes a while.

The rings were moved from my 223. Didn't bother getting nice rings for such soft recoil.

Holding up long term is a concern. Had several 1/2" 5 shot 100m groups today so reluctant to change them out. :jerkit:

I'm at the range right now and just had to say, shoots better than me, 3 out of a 5 shot group are touching. Only have 24 down range so far, cleaning as I go for break in and very pleased so far. Glass is super clear at all magnifications up to and including 20x

Nicely done! They may never break on you which would be excellent. What has happened to me in the past is that sh!t breaks at critical moments.... Like in the middle of a major competition where one or two points makes a difference. I just try to eliminate as many variables as possible (with budget still in mind).

Finally here and assembled!!! The 10rd Ruger mag fits as well as the 5rd AICS mag.
