Hello all. I recently purchased a Savage 10TR as a first step in getting into long range target shooting. I have a muzzle brake on order from ATRS as well as a Sightron 8-32x56 scope. Some say the Picatinny rail that came on the 10TR's is a 0 moa, some say it is a 20 moa. How can I tell the difference, and which rail would be necessary to shoot to 800 m?
Thanks to all who chime in!

Chris

the rail will be thicker at one end but if it is the stock rail it will be 0 moa
Whether you will be able to get out to 800 depends and the ammo you use run it thru a ballistics calculator and figure out how much drop you should expect After a quick search it says your scope choice has 70 moa elevation adj 35 each way I/m guessing but you should need around 20 moa with no wind to 25 windy day

The rail was supplied by EGW. There is a model number marked under the rail which will allow you to find out what rail you have.
Mine was a 0 MOA.

Congrats on your recent purchase! There's the odd lemon out there, but as most people in this thread can attest, it's a damn fine rifle and it will reach out to a grand with factory ammo:

Post pictures of your rifle there when you can and looking forward to hearing your range report!

Thanks for the info guys. The rail is the same thickness on both ends, so 0 moa is it!. Looking forward to the arrival of the scope, rings and muzzle brake on Monday. Can't wait to get to the range.

just an fyi. The people that i personally know that got them found that the attached rail/screws were very greasy/oily and came loose thru shooting. I replaced mine asap with egw 20moa ones and cleaned up the excess oil in the threaded holes before i shot it.

I have a Savage 10 TR myself that wears a Sightron SIII 8X32X56 so I think you made an excellent choice :)
I put mine in a Choate tactical stock ( bought from Jerry at Mystic Precision). It is quite an accurate shooter.

Good information...Thank you again. I have heard that it would be a good idea to remove the rail to clean up the grease / oil from under it. Now would be a good time to replace it with a 20 moa anyway, so I won't have to do it later. I looked at many different scopes before I settled in the Sightron. Nearly went with the Vortex RZR, but all of the positive reviews that I read on the Sightron made it a easy decision. I was very hard pressed to find anything negative written about it. I'm really looking forward to trying it out for the first time. I know it will take me a while to work up to the 800 m, but I'm confident that I will get there some day. I will probably consider changing the stock some time down the road, but for the time being, it will have to stay as it is. My wallet has taken on this empty, hollow sound.
