it comes with a 10 round mags now...



as for the stock, I find it comfortable. have yet to try mine but shot my friend's and loved it.

for the money it's great bang for the buck

I actually bought one today. Mine didn't come with a 10 round mag, but it's been hanging around the LGS long enough that it still has the old Indian head logo. I'll have to look into getting a couple 10 rounders.

If the barrel is good quality a heavier barrel should get better accuracy. Sporter barrels are also capable of very good accuracy. If the barrel is a dud doesn't matter how thick it is it won't be accurate.
 
Pinard, my 24'' 10TR came in same configuration as yours.
Let me know how it shoots once you get there, curious to see if new logo ones behave properly

 
My 10 round mag sold under 30 minutes on the EE
Hate depending on savage for mags, i figered it's better to use rifle in AICS compatible configuration
 
Had one, moved on to a Tikka.

Try the action on both. Try the trigger. Then if you can afford it you're going to want to take the Tikka home.

If you plan to move it to a chassis or a stock then you're even either way.

Tikka profit barrels are just around the corner, so down the road you can run anything you want.

Handling quite a few tikkas in the store I could never see why everyone is such a fan. I went with the Savage 10 FCP HS.

Action wise, I still prefer 700s though the savage won me with the barrel changes.

I bought a 10TR with a 20" barrel last year to get back into shooting. I put a Vortex Viper 6-24 on it (paid more for the optic than the rifle). For the money, I have been impressed with it, shooting it to 500yds. I did some minor sanding on the trigger (1000 grit) and oiled it. It will never be as good as my Anschutz 64 trigger, but nothing is! I chose it over the Remington 700 platform because of the whole trigger issue they had, the price point was excellent, and two others at work that have 10TR's gave them good reviews. The threaded barrel is nice if you plan on putting a muzzle brake on. If you buy one, locktite the rail screws. I thought I had (but had not) as I was working on two different rifles with rails at the same time and it came loose after about 100 rounds. It seems to shoot 168gr match grade the best, 0.78" 3rnd groups @ 200yds. I am now going to start experimenting with different loads with 168gr Nosler Custom Competition.

I am very happy with my Savage 10 PSR 18.5" without the accustock. It's my hunting gun and was well worth the $750 I bought it for.
Routinely shoots 1/2 moa with handloads.
I adjusted my trigger down to about 2.5 pounds and have no issues, and I replace the trigger in most every gun I buy. Could not get the wifes Savage 243 trigger down to where I wanted so a Rifle Basix went in and all is good.
I just recommend checking the torque on the stock and rail
 
The 10TR: Wonderfully accurate, and a joy to shoot. I wish there were better aftermarket trigger options. The SAV-1 and Timney options just don't fit the bill. If anyone has a thread protector from theirs kicking around that they no longer need send me a PM. I will give it a happy home. :)

Truenortharms.com sells some thread protectors that I think will work.
 
Great guns. I have mine in a cadex chassis and during load development have found multiple loads that are producing half moa groups and have been able to shoot sub half moa multiple times with my current load.
