Hi Everyone
I bought a savage 10xp predator in 22-250 and I am geting not bad groups but I am getting the odd stray about 4 to 5 " I just bought the winchester 55 grain from canadian tire , is there a proper procedure for breaking in a rifle

I am going to by a differrent brand of bullets tonight

any luck yet? odd no one replyed to this? make sure the barrel is not touching stock.. slid paper between. make sure action to stock screws are tight. make sure scope mounts are tight. they say one shot clean one shot clean for 5 to 10 rounds for a break in procesduer

Some will give the shoot one clean break in procedure.

Me personally I just take my new guns and shoot em and they group just fine. Like tyler says check everything is tight, try some different kinds of ammo. It may be that the winchesters just don't group well in your gun.

Do you have a solid lead sled type rest? Get one and use it to sight in, it will basically eliminate the "human factor" from your shooting.

How fast are you shooting off rounds? It could be that you're getting the strays from heating up the barrel.

Ask 10 people about break in and you will get 10 answers. Even the precision guys can't agree on anything related to break in. I simply go shooting and then clean it when I get home. Some guys clean after every shot for 5 or 10 shots, some shoot 3 then clean, some shoot 5 then clean and so on. Pick whatever you like and go for it, it won't make any difference.

As for the fliers, check everything as mentioned by tylerjtwitty and make sure you are on a solid rest to eliminate human error as much as possible. No offense, but how accurate are you? There is technique involved in gettting good groups off a rest and it requires practice like anything else. If you are not holding the rifle the same every time, it will not group that well. If it isn't you, then I would look at the ammo. I have had very little luck with Winchester ammo in any of my rifles, Federal has been much better for me so far. Try a few brands and bullet weights and see what your gun likes.

After following the good advice from the above post replies, check the twist rate of your rifles' barrel. A lot of .22-250's are a 1 in 14 twist which stabilizes lighter bullets best.
My old Ruger M77 sporter had the above twist and shot its' best with 45gr. Speer
bullets driven to 4100fps. I was getting sub-half in. groups at 100yds. with my handloads
in the 80's with this combo, and the rifle still shot straight even though the rifling was
eroded for 3 inches in front of the chamber!
If your rifle has a faster twist rate then you should try loads with 60gr.-70gr. bullets
to get the results you want. Hope you're a reloader cause it makes it cheaper and
more entertaining than going to store bought.
