Was just informed that Ill be getting one of these for my birthday. Comes as a package with a weaver 3-9x40 already bore-sighted.

Any thoughts? Anybody have this rifle in .308 (my caliber)?

Not a Model 10/110 but basically the same in stainless. I had a choice between the two and chose the Model 16 due to the very wet weather here chasing blacktails. The scope is not that bad and will upgrade when the need comes. I believe its a Kaspa as I was curious and went to check out the scope at the store. Retails $149.99. Does have ballistic reticle although I have not tried it yet at the given ranges. Very accurate rifle with no complaints. Never had an accutrigger before and I can say I love it. Factory setting was perfect for me. You get what you pay for and definetly worth the money. I upgraded the stock to a boyds peppermint(6 business days delivered from the time I ordered to in my hands). Mine is in 7mm-08.

I bought a lefty in 243 for my nephew. First attempt at reloads resulted in 1 inch groups. Scope ise decent but not great. Its good enough for him for now but we will eventually ugrade the scope and rings.

I really like the scope, it's my fav 3-9. I did replace it with a 4-16 Bushnell though, but put the Weaver on my Savage MKii with great success.

On a .22 is a good place for that scope. I was looking at one today that had the reticle rotate about 20 degrees from recoil. Outwardly the scope looked perfect, it hadn't been abused. I don't think package guns are a great idea, the optics tend to be pretty poor. Save your money, buy a bare rifle and then choose a good scope.

That is a nice birthday present.

From it's appearance I expect the Weaver scope on it is from the relatively new Kaspa line. It may not say Kaspa on it which would be in keeping with the various branded scopes that rifle makers offer on their package guns, they don't like to be pinned down on which model the scope is.

Other Weaver scopes such as the Classic K and Classic V models which are made in Japan are very good value, but I suspect the Kaspas are made in China and built down to price point so the quality control isn't as high and some people report problems with theirs. But like the Bushnells and Simmons scopes that are often in such packages, it will probably work well enough at least for a while and you will probably eventually replace it with something better anyway.

The scope on these is the Weaver Kaspa. Its a definite step up from the scopes that adorn the cheaper package rifles and the hold-over reticle is useful.

I have one in .223 and for the price it is good value but I simply cannot come to like these soft plastic Savage stocks. I had one before that I replaced with a Hogue (I find the Hogue ergo's much nicer) and swore I wouldn't get another another! This newer one will also get a Hogue or Boyds.

I really like that stock alot. I was researching the Boyds line and think I may chose them to upgrade my stock if I find that its unsatisfactory (which it sounds like is a common complaint for these budget savage rifles). I think I need some help though...

On the boys website when you are chosing your stock, you can select a savage 11, or a savage 111... the 111 is available in box magazine long action, while the 11 is available in box magazine short action. My rifle is in .308 so it will be short action... but Which one is it? I would hate to order the stock only to find its not the correct line. Also Boyds doesnt seem to have an email contact option, so Ill probobly have to call them to confirm, but I thought I would ask here first.

The stock I got was for model 16 in classic peppermint, short action with detachable mag, factory barrel. When you get th rifle, check the action screws an make sure they will fit the new stock(see dimensions on boyds website) before you order. It fit like a glove. I bedded the stock and filed a tiny tiny bit for
the bolt release(down by he trigger guard). If I'm not mistaken, if yours will be 308, it will take the exact same stock as mine.
