savage 110 338

Supposedly you can build it on a Savage action, by the time you got everything together, and Gunsmiths fees, you be paying well over $3000Cad, with the same level type of Stock.

I can build a new truck that will be better then any of the new trucks out there for cheaper but doesnt mean I want to. It is new having a "cheaper" 338 lapua on the market now. Good on Remington and Savage for bringing these out.

The only parts that can't be sourced is the alloy chassis and top rails.

The rest of the rifle is pure Savage and readily available parts for little money.

Based on $2400 for that rifle, $400 for the action, $50 or less to modify the bolt face, $360 for the barrel, $175 to have a brake installed, $50 for the bolt knob - around $1000. The rest is bells and whistles.

That is alot of money for a hunk of machined alum and mag especially when you can buy the AR parts (stock and grip) for $100 and up depending on what you want. a quality scope rail doesn't need to cost anymore then $100. If you really must a super long rail for your night vision toys, they are also available and can be modified to fit.

If this rifle was more like $1200, I would give it a go.

it would be better off to build a 300winmag, this way ammo is easy to get access, even for reloading, 1box of 300grain Lapua bullet cost me $90Can, compare to 40Can, this way you have you gun out on the range, instead of collecting dust...

If inexpensive LR plinking was the goal, look no further then the 223.

I have had my boomers and know they are a hoot. Given them up for smaller more accurate chamberings and cals. Biggest magnum I have is a 7RM and that is plenty big enough for me.

The allure AND expense of the 338LM will have its following. Excellent. You can't live on vanilla all the time.

As time and experience grows, shooters will venture in different directions and find different things to love and enjoy.

It's all good.

I just don't understand a $2400 factory Savage that is all.

Frankly that rifle looks like it has been dragged through the fugly parts drawer. The rifle is definitely a marketing manager's wet dream.

If you can get the McMillan version in a long action that is what I would do. Boltface, barrel, and (if you must) a mag system.

For those that care...
The 338 Lapua costs more than twice as much to shoot as does a 300Win.
The 223 costs pretty much 1/2 of the 300Win.

The rifle will be available in Canada later this year.
The problem I see with it is the stock. not so much that I think it is ugly but more the fact that the minimum LOP is 14" in the collapsed position, not many guys really need a 16" LOP
In handling the 1s on display at SHOT I can not say it felt good, different yes, good , no

I use mine for effectively killing animals out past 800 metres. Its got nothing to do with plinking or putting holes in a target. Thats why I made the choice to shoot 338LapuaAI.
