Just picked up the new savage 110BA in 300 win mag from Moving target in Entwhistle.

Thought I would share my thoughts on it this far.

The first impression of this bad boy is a good one. It looks the part of a precision rifle and has ,what I would consider, some good features. The adjustable stock is effective and it was quickly fitted to me and comfortable.

I was pleased with the feel while shooting, recoil is very light and I could shoot this girl all day! I tried to break the barrel in nicely, cleaning between 3 round groups. I know about the clean evey shot concept but I dont do that.

The only thing I have negative to say this far is that the mondo scope rail mount screws sucked and had to be replaced with a slightly longer ones.

The range report this far is good, if i figure out how, I will include a pic of a 10 shot group that was very good considering my lackluster shootin.

I forgot to add that was a cheap box of federal 180gr shot at a brisk pace for a ten round group. She was a little warm at the end of the series, and the 50 had just slapped me in the face about 10 minutes earlier (But thats another story altogether lol...)

Ok, so the last report was more about my excitement than actual results.

So here are results,

After pulling off the tripod I had on her and shooting from an adjustable rest plus smashing together a decent load here it is.

Load from this group is 190gr matchking seated 0.030 off the rifling propelled by 77.5gr of retumbo. This group was out of the barrel around 3050fps and measured @ 0.625" so thats 0.318 MOA. All at 100yrds so far.

Not bad for a "cheap" savage precision rifle....

I really like mine, so far the short screws on the super mondo scope rail were my only issue. I have 4-5 groups of 3 shots that came in under .5 MOA with this round of load testing. Might I add that this is the first load I have made for it, I am planning a 175gr amax target load and a 180gr barnes tsx huntin' load.

It feeds well from the mag, recoil is manageable I think, and in my opinion it is nice to shoot. Don't be afraid to get the 300WM, it is a lot cheaper than the lapua to feed.

I am satisfied with my purchase, just need to put some better glass on it then try to wear out the barrel :D:sniper:
 
Good choice on the rifle! I got one early last year as well. I was lucky enough to top it with a 8.5-25X50 Mark4. (M1 dials and TMR Reticle) Now I'm broke! LOL! I havent had allot of time to load develop. But the time I had was spent tuning the 168Gr. Berger VLD. They shot very well indeed. I decided to try some heavier bullets (210 gr.Berger VLD) seated to 0.030" off the rifling. I used R22 powder and Fed.215 Match Magnum primers. I only had 5 rounds loaded with each charge weight. I shot an opening group of 0.165" ! OMG! Average velocity of 3024fps. Very unexpected! Unfortunately The pressures seemed a little high! I will try the same load seated back .060" off the rifling next time. I will also try the original seating depth with 1.5gr. less R22. Hopefully everything will print just as well.
Time is the most precious thing we have, but it can never be bought!
I have had no problems with the rail screws though.
These Savages sure shoot for the money!

Your are right, these rifles are very easy to shoot! I had my friends 10 year old boy shoot a 10" metal plate at 500 yards! Two shots in a row. It gave the young fellow some huge confidence! These rifles just dont recoil! I even gave my sister-in-law(100lbs. at the most)a shot at 500yards. She hit the 3" bulls eye on the plate! They are so easy to shoot!
I plant to work with a few more loads, then start recalibrating my scope for the best load. I would love to give the young fella a chance to shoot at 1000yds. Not many kids get a chance at that! That will make his day.

I have a field report!
yesterday evening I managed to get two consecutive groups on my target at 1500Yds.
They were 15", and 13"! I was very happy with that! They were the nice typical triangle shape configuration. Maybe next weekend I will push out to the 1760yard mark! That would be awsome!
I am shooting the 210gr. Berger VLD (target Bullet) and R22 powder.
