Hey all - forgive a stupid question here...
I am looking at a used savage 110 (at least 20 years old - serial starts with F but I have no other details) in 7mm Remington Magnum. I haven't shot the gun and the guy selling it is clearly just Joe Hunter - the gun probably hasn't seen 100 rounds in 10 years.
Anyways - staring down the bore from the muzzle I can see that the bore is pretty shiney and clean (not unusually so, but still pretty good) but I haven't seen much rifling but for a few guns so I am wondering... There was clearly rifling in the bore but it certainly didn't jump away from the bore, couldn't really see lands and grooves at the muzzle like I can in my enfield. Seems the same all the way to the chamber but hard to tell. Is it possible this thing is shot out? Or is the rifling like this on the older savages? Could it be leaded? Somehow I doubt this guy was shooting cast thru it, though. History is that he's had it for about 10 years - before that, who knows... but do people really shoot a 7mag savage 110 enough to shoot out a barrel? Doesn't seem to me to be possible but then again I'm pretty new at this. Oh, and the guy's not a reloader so it's just been factory ammo.
