Savage 110 Ultralite - Short Barrel

Would anyone else like to see Savage make a 110 Ultralite with a 16.5” or 18” barrel to make a sweet handy pointy easy to carry brush gun?

Maybe offer it in .308 and 450 Bushmaster.

The Scout almost fits the bill but weighs too much for my liking.
 
I'm kind of surprised they went with such a heavy barrel on the 110 Scout to be honest, since the whole scout thing is about being as light as possible. In the very unlikely event that I shoot out the barrel in the far future it'd benefit from a slimmer profile replacement, but there's also the aluminum bedding block to contend with that the Ultralite doesn't have which shaves the ounces even further. An 18" carbon barrel would probably be perfect.
 
Personally, yes, in 450BM or similar for sure. 308 less so, just because of the internal ballistics. But I don't see it happening, the short barrels don't seem to have enough broad appeal to justify it. Don't they make a hog hunter or something like that?

The Scout pattern rifles are interesting but pretty niche, and not really made for hunting from what I can see. I think the Ruger American Ranch is kind of in a class by itself at the moment.
 
The hog hunter is a heavy package as well.
And ya the ranch is so far in a class of its own for weight and compactness.
I can’t get over how cheap the stock and action feel on them compared to some nicer savages.
That’s why I’d love to see savage come out with a direct competitor to the ranch. If it’s at a higher price point that’s fine if the build quality is better.
 
Yeah, they don't really do anything for me. It seems like major manufacturers think if it's going to be short then it needs to be heavy. Except for the Ruger - But only after you take that stupid brake off!
 
Yeah, I think an 18" Proof barrel on a short action 110 in the Ultralight Accustock would be sweet. Ditch the Craputrigger for a Timney though.

I went with a Winchester XPR Stealth, 16.5" .308 to fill the stubby sledgehammer role in the field. I think it's mid-6 pound range.

Exactly what I did with mine, a quick trip to the gunsmith for some basics and a Timney trigger and it’s a handy package !
