Savage 110FP Tactical Questions

Greetings,

First off, thank you CGN folks for all the answers you have had to my endless string of questions. UI truly appreciatye all the help you have given me.

If all goes well, by the end of the month I will be the owner of a new to me Savage 110FP in .223. It is coming with a bipod and a Tasco World Class Plus 8 - 32 x 50. I know the scope isn't the best and that I don't have an Accu-Trigger.

Does anyone know more about this rifle that waht I have found on the internet? Mostly stock reviews that all pretty much say the same thing. Nothing interesting or informative. If you have first hand knowledge with this particular beast let me know.

My plans for this little boom stick down the road are to turn it into my 6.5X55 tactical dream rifle. But for now, it is going to be very happy shooting paper and the occasional coyote with my brother-in-law.

Odds are the proper bedding will need to be done. Then the trigger lightened as much as possible. If stilll too heavy, then a Timney will get the job done. Bolt timing can help the operation be easier and smoother.

Beyond that, load up some ammo and have fun. I have found 75gr Amax and Bergers, Varget, CCI450 in Win brass to work very well. Lapua does great too. But whatever brand of brass can be made to work just fine. I use Hodgdon load data and found it to be right on.

There really isn't much more to say. Some will find the stock to their liking, others will want it changed out pronto. Accuracy is usually very good - load tuning articles on my website should help you get dialed in.

Go have fun and enjoy the rifle. I shoot my 223's WAAAAYYYY more then any of my larger cals. So much so that I have sold pretty much all my bigger boomers and will have several 223's instead.

great choice....6.5x55. I've chambered a few bbls in that cartridge and love shooting them. I usually have one or two on hand if you decide to redo yours, I might be able to help out. I have five 6.5 blanks so could do others as well. I just got my 6.5x47 Reamer in and plan on pre chambering a few bbls in that cartridge as well. Be a little easier to stay in a short action, only need to swap your bolt head.

You were the first guy I was thinking of when I thought of doing my rifle up in 6.5X55 due to our PM's back and forth, what I have read from you on here, your webpage, the fact that your from my hometown and a great endorsement from Dennis at the Shooters Den while I was up there last week.

The 110FP is a long action so I don't think that 6.5X55 will be a problem. Gonna shoot it as it for a while though so no need to rush out and make a barrel for me.

Ah...long action .223, I thought maybe a typo on the 110. Well I have a Shilen 6.5x55 ready right now and can usually have one in a couple days if you need one. I just ordered 8 shilen select match bbls to keep on hand and I always have a few CM's so no problem doing one on short notice. you'll love the .223 anyway, so i'm sure you'll be a while with it. I have a couple .223 barrels as well. :)

I'm not sure he's going to want to go much lighter than the minimal amount on the stock Accutrigger Jerry... Isn't it something like under a pound? :eek:
 
The standard accutrigger is around 2lbs min but I have no idea where the trigger is set now. It could still be at the lawyer settings?

If you ever try a light trigger in a target rifle, you might just like it. Some shooters go down to a couple of ozs.

Greetings,

No arguing about the trigger pull boys, this is a pre accu-trigger rifle so I will eventually be swapping it out. Don't worry Mystic, I will be coming to you for a Timney trigger. I know I am planning all these changes and I can't pick up the rifle until the end of November LOL.
