I currently own and shoot a savage 111 in 204 ruger. The gun has a tight chamber, so I feel it needs to be re cut ever so slightly. But then that got me thinking... What would it take to covert that rifle to 20 vartarg? I know I'll need a new barrel and stock. But is that it? Nothing else? Or do you think I'll need to modify the magazine and extractor as well? It's just an idea as I already have the rifle.

Or you chamber it in 20 tac or 20 prac. Both are based on the 223 so you get the benefit of cheap brass that is always around and don't give up much in velocity over the ruger. The 20 practical is simply the 223 necked down to 20 cal. The 20 tactical is an improved 223 necked down to 20 cal. Dakota has brass made by lapua for 20 tac and I got my last batch from Doug at Rayner'shine. The tac pushes 26's to 4250 and 32's at just over 4000 fps.

I have a 20 Vartarg that I built on a Savage target action. It is an awesome little round (close to 3800fps with 32gr pill and only 18.9 grs of powder) but they don't feed well from a mag. If you google it you will find that most are built as sigle shots because of this.
