Thought I would start my own thread, instead of posting in other peoples. :)

Last month I was looking at picking up a axis or a stevens 200 in 270cal for a deer rifle and maybe a few yotes from time to time. I was also going to get a new trigger and eventually a boyds stock to make it more shooter friendly, if you know what I mean. :D

After looking around at a few rifles and what not, I found a Savage 111 GCNS for 499. Its got a accutrigger, which I like since I have a savage 17hmr with it, and its got a decent wood stock. Is this rifle a no brainer to buy since I dont really have to mod it up any for ruffly the same price?

And searching around some online it says that it has the "legendary 110 action". They that much better then the axis/stevens action?

thx

Stevens also has the legendary 110 action without accu-trigger.

Axis has a different action.

I own one of each (yeah I'm cheap) they both shoot minute of yote or moose.

Ahh thats why people are saying they'd get a Stevens over the Axis. To bad the Stevens didnt have a detachable mag though.

I know the wifey would like it better if I would go the cheaper route.

thx

The 110 action is in my opinion much nicer than the Axis action. I have an old Savage 110 and love it, so maybe I'm a tad bit biased.;)

That being said, I too am debating between the two models. Solely because the Axis is lighter and slightly more compact. The 110 on the other hand is tried and true, whereas the Axis's action is questionable. Anyhow good luck with your decision.

Thanks Archie/Dusty for the posts.

Ill get a Stevens 200 for sure, just not sure if I can lay down the extra 150 for the 111. Should be picking one up this weekend.

Save and get the 111 you'll be happier with the detachable magazine! The 200 is a great gun but the blind box mag is a pain in the field. Although it may make the gun more accurate. Great choice either way!

Yeah thats the only thing I didnt like about the Stevens. I figured that I would just get use to it and at the same time make me slow down on blasting rounds down range to make every round count. :)

thx

BTW Is the 1 piece weaver rail for the Stevens the same as the 111 I was looking at. I think I was told it was the #48338.

Looking now...

EDIT: The 48338 is for the short actions, need the #48329 for the long actions

You know... If/when you go to an aftermarket stock you can have it inlet for a box mag... You could also do it with the factory stock but there really not worth putting any time/money/effort into unless you just want to practice... Another option I rather like is the "score hi benchrest follower" from mystic precision that allows you to just single feed the rifle.... Handy at the range when testing loooong handloads

Well I went for the 111 GCNS. Didnt feel like doing a new trigger anytime soon so...

Also picked up a Millett 1 piece base for it
