Savage 111 mag fell out

Was out shooting today and found that my mag would drop out of my rifle in front of the trigger guard just enough that the bolt wouldn't pick up the next round . I'm shooting a savage 111 non acutrigger in .300 win mag . Anyone have experience with this ?might be time to upgrade .
 
Not sure of that exact setup but I have found it's usually quite easy to improve magazine latching. Closely examine what is supposed to catch to latch the mag, look both at the "nub" on the mag and what's in the mag well that catches it. Don't file anything until you're sure it needs filing. The latch might need slight filing if the magazine nub isn't quite going over it. If it is going over it, don't file anything, try slightly prying the spring latch to make it stronger against the mag. If you do file the latch, think about the geometry, a slight angle on it may be right to improve how the latch mates with the mag
 
is the front action screw tight
could be a case of the screw backing off and the mag and stock slipping or dipping away from the action a bit. pressure back on the stock and the mag is still low. is this a rifle with the side button mag release or the bottom one - did you accidentally touch off the magazine release button when shooting
 
Look at the two ends of the mag, one has just a thin metal looking piece that is bent into a hook which is prone to breaking off but may still look good if you dont know what to look for, google a savage 111 mag and compare yours to it.
 
An Axis gave me that grief so I first broke the little hooked tab off trying to get a good latchup - then silver soldered a thicker tab onto the mag to replace it - and then it worked right.
 
if your mag is not sitting flush when in place it can happen. you need to place the mag heel in first and click. Otherwise, I found a good whack on the mag will seat it. Not sure if this fits your issue but that's my solution.

Had a look the other day and seems like I need another mag .the hook part on the rear of the mag is worn down . Thanks for the help guys , much appreciated.
