Savage 111 or Remington 783****Range Results!!

Not trying to start a war as I currently own Remington's and savages. I like both. I am looking for a budget 7mm rem mag to play with that gives me the option to spin on a new bull barrel when I see fit. I found a 111 on sale for roughly $100 more than a 783. Curious if it's worth the extra for the savage. I have handled both and honestly kinda prefer the savage. However, I am also curious to try a 783. Who has these guns in this caliber? Thanks

Between those 2 the 783 is a bit nicer and has better mags.
If you can hold out for a Vanguard or Howa sale I'd steer you that way for a low cost rifle.
 
The Savage has quite a slow lock time. The Rem is better and the magazines are better. I think you went with the better rifle.

Savages actually have one of the fastest lock times of current production rifles....1.7ms

I am taking it out today if the weather cooperates. Going to run a bit of factory ammo and then possibly some hand loads I put together. Overall it seems not too bad. Adjusted the trigger as light as I could get it. Re-torqued everything. Tossed on a 4-12x50 vortex. I just wanted to try one of these low budget options and play with the 7mm....
 
There is not much to legitimately ##### about with these guns.
Good stocks, mags, recoil pads, smooth enough action, decent trigger, accurate barrels.
Only 2 minor things I would like to see Remington fix....put some proper sling swivels on the stocks. The molded plastic loops on mine haven't broke, but I'm​ pretty certain they will first good tumble I take with it lol.
Since it's a solid receiver top, there is no need to have the bases mounted so far apart. Doesn't give you much adjustment room with a scope, unless you get extension rings or a 1 piece Weaver base.
I used the Rem brand of Tally type rings on my 30-06, on the 7mm I went with an EGW 1 piece base. Parted with the 7mm only because I got a deal on a 7mm Vanguard.

My only complaint so far would be the bolt knob. I am not a fan. There is a guy on eBay who makes a nice looking 2 piece one that fits over the stock one, kinda like the krg one but not plastic. He does not ship to Canada though....I am looking forward to playing with this some more. 7mm rem mag is a fun round. Leaning towards a Boyd's stock to stiffen things up a bit
 
With the way it's shooting now, I wouldn't change the stock...might affect it negatively, plus it will cost as much as the rifle just about lol.
I've had and still have a few Abolts so the handle shape is normal. It would be easy enough to have it cut and threaded.

Yup ..... I wouldn't change a thing when it shoots like that. Cheap rifle anyways, enjoy it as-is.

Just switch to weaver brand bases and use a #40A extension base on the front. The receiver is drilled to take two#35 bases which is the M700 front base.

#40A front, #35 rear.

For the price i think its a great rifle. I am going to the range tomorrow to test and chrony some more handloads. I am going to keep an eye out for sales so i can grab a 300 win mag and 22-250 just because.
