Savage 111combo or Stevens 200?

Well thanks for all your help....I just ordered the savage 111 combo and will be selling the scope and rings at a later time.....I really like the idea of the detacheable clip.....Now I just have to find some cheap ammo (any tips) and then have some fun...

I'll give you some advice I ought to have taken myself, and that is before you get too married to a particular brand of ammo, buy several different brands and see which one your gun shoots the best.

I think you made the better choice. The new 111 packages have a soft recoil pad and jeweled bolt, along with the detach mag.

Was in the same position as you a year ago. Went for the 111 as I wanted the detachable mag (and a nifty scope for my .22)

So what do you think of it (adriel)

The scope or the rifle? The rifle is a no-nonsense deer-slaying machine. Reasonable cartridge for the game, good ergo's, plenty accurate; hard to go wrong for $450. The scope is a good .22 scope. Replaced it with an Elite 3200 as soon as I bought the rifle.

Well I just got it today and it looks great (Savage .270 111FCXP3)....I never bought a gun from mail order before...I was a little skeptical but after reading about all your positive experiences with SIR I figured I would give it a try and it worked out great.... It came out to $432. taxes and delivery in....SIR did a great job on the packaging and I look forward to sighting it in sometime next week... Here in Ontario we still have one more day for turkey hunting......

I went through the same mental gymnastics for a buddy that wanted a rifle but was on a budget. I ended up getting him the Stevens with a Leupold Rifleman 2-7x scope. With a little adjustment the trigger turned out reasonably crisp and a decent weight. I have the same rifle with a different scope for my banging around rifle and I think it will be just dandy. I have no use for nor need of a detachable mag or a floorplate so the Stevens was all I needed.

I wouldn't own a package gun as the scopes they include are, generally, garbage.

Biguglyman With a little adjustment the trigger turned out reasonably crisp and a decent weight. [/I][/I]

Can you tell/explain how I can do this.... thanks..

Well I went out to the range yesterday and am a little dissapointed..probably not the fault of the gun itself....After sighting it in and playing with it I ended up my final shooting of a 4inch group at 200yds....considering I was using the cheapest bullets I could find (winchester .270-130gr. $15.98 box TSC....that wasn't to bad (I guess)....I did find the trigger pull excessive....

Still looking for some information about lowering the trigger pull...I have found many sites for a savage 110...but my 111 trigger looks a little different... any help would be greatly appreciated.... Thank you......

On a positive note I was having trouble with my .22 magnum..fixed that problem....better ammo....shooting some really good groupings with it.....

Here are a couple of pictures taken on the range....both are from 200 yds.....270 and .22 mag....With the .270 I was aiming dead center........ With the .22mag I was aiming about 12-14" high......
