A fellow I hunted with had one in .270 Winchester and said he thought it was a very good hunting gun and a bargain. I didn't fire it, but from just handling it, I liked it. Savage has built a good reputation for accurate rifles at keen prices. If you find it fits you well, you will probably shoot it well and like it.
I have the prior model, non-accutrigger and detachable mag with side button. The gun is light, and in 300WM it really jumps at the muzzle. The accutrigger you are getting, if you like it, will eliminate the need to do what I did and replace the heavy trigger. My only complaint is the synthetic stock. Its rugged and alleviates concerns about weather and wear, but the version they put on mine is too flexible at the foreend, poorly fitted and contacts the barrel at both the very tip, and along one side. Its caused me some grief with erratic groupings. I'm replacing it with a laminate stock as soon as I get it. I could sand, file and bed the action.
Anyway, back to the positive. I think the gun other than the stock is good quality. The calibre of 300 Win Mag isn't conducive to enjoyable shooting in such a light gun and non-existant recoil pad. But, I didn't buy the rifle for an afternoon of plinking. Its for hunting at further range than my other calibres.

The accutrigger is one of the reasons I am looking at it, as well as the price.
My brother has the Tikka T3 lite in 7mm rem mag, so I realise that this gunisnt gonna be too comfortable to shoot right out of the box.
Any other suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated!

These issues are very easily remedied at very little to no cost if you have the know how and do the work yourself. It has been covered here many times.
I got myself the model 11 FCNS in .308 this last september... And I LOVE it.
the factory set on the accutrigger is wonderful, for how I shoot. I LOVE to be surprised when the rifle goes off as I gently squeeze that trigger. It beats the ol .303 brit, which I nearly had to lever the damn trigger with the base of my finger some days, just for the leverage.
I really appreciate the "short" action on the .308 as well. I wouldn't want anything longer.
The big thing with these rifles is that the stocks are pretty plain jane, so an aftermarket recoil pad is a REALLY useful addition! I wouldn't recommend shooting one without a good recoil pad.
Sure you can get an aftermarket stock, but why bother, until you've shot it a couple seasons & have a clear idea what would work best for both you AND the rifle?
Final bit... I'm SERIOUSLY impressed with the accuracy of my rifle. First deer I shot with it, 210 yards, light wind & it went bang, flop. And less than a box of ammo put through at that point, sighting it in & getting used to the kick.
I won't hesitate to buy another Savage firearm, when the time comes to get another. They're SO worth it!

got one in 300WM, no accutrigger, mag release on the underside.
have used it for 2 hunting seasons now, 2 moose and several deer harvested with this rifle. Now using handloads, 200grn Nosler accubonds.
oh and the recoil is stout, but not un-manageable
