Went down to WSS and picked myself up my first rifle. I was looking at the Tikka and a Leo... But I like my man parts and the wife would have had them if I spent that much, and hunting isn`t a cheap sport to get into after my 2 shottys and now my 4 legged cannon and I still need some basic stuff for Moose camp....

Anyways, picked up the Savage 111FCXP3 in 30-06. Good news when I got it. They ditched the Simmons and now come with a Bushnell scope and they also have the fancy diamond polish on the bolt. I am happy with my buy.

One question for fellow Savage 111FCXP3 owners. What ammo do they like for the best accuracy? The manual says to sight it with 168g Federal BTHP. Is that my best bet for the 1:10" barrell?

I have found mine likes Hornady 165's. My experience with federal power shoks is a kin to a reasonably tight shot gun pattern.

What model Bushnell are they using now? I have heard a lot of reports on the Simmons 8 points failing, though I have put a few hundred rounds through mine (in 7mm Rem Mag) with no issues. Just the same I swapped it out for a Bushnell Elite 3200 series. For what its worth, mine shoots well with Win Power point.

I have three Savages, 2 in .308 and one in .223, all heavy barrel "Match" type. With any of the three I can put all the bullets pretty well in the same hole at 100m. Thye seem to shoot just fine for me!

Got one of them too and after replacing Simmons with Nikon ProStaff, sighting in and 40 rds total later (after unpacking it) I got 3 holes at 100m where a dime placed in between would touch all three. :) Had to drag the target around for a few days just to show off :D 150-170gr work the best for me.
