I ended up buying a Brand New Savage Model 116FCSS Weather Warrior today from one of the sponsors from the top of the page. Well sort of anyways. I Ordered it and Payed for it in full ( they did'nt have the calibre I wan'ted in stock )

I ended up Ordering the rifle in .300 Win Mag. It is going to be used for Moose, Black Bear, and Deer up North (were we can use rifles in Ontario).

This model of rifle comes with a Synthetic Stock, Stainless Steel Barrel, AccuStock, AccuTrigger, and a Detachable Magazine.

After owning several different .300WinMag rifles, both semi-auto, and bolt action, I knew exactly what type of features I was looking for, and the Savage had everything that I was looking for. It also fits like a glove, when I shouldered it.

I was just wondering if anyone else has any comments on this rifle (good hopefully:) ) Also, I was wondering if anyone knows if they seem to prefer any specific type of ammo, although I realize all rifles are different.

Would like to know if anyone has experience with this type of rifle, of how accurate it is?? I have heard quite a few good things about them, but I don't know for sure if that included this model??

I currently have a extra Burris Fullfield 3x9x40 scope, in Black, but I think I will buy a ###y new Silver Scope to match the barrel. I was thinking about getting a Bushnell 3200 Elite in Silver, but I am open to any suggestions, because there are'nt that many Silver Scopes out there.

I know 2 people with that particular rifle, they are very accurate solid rifles. Both for some reason though do not like 165gr bullets, 180 and up they both shoot better than M.O.A

Use the Burris!!!!!!!

I have one in 300WSM. Shoots like a laser. Easily one of the most accurate guns I own. Thinking of selling it though... I'm getting a case of Weatherbyitis ;)

I had a Remington mod 700 BDL with a Limbsaver recoil pad and I must admit that it was amazing. However I noticed that the new Savage Weather Warrior has a amazing Factory Stock Recoil pad, so I don't see a need to upgrade. It is one of the best Factory Pads that I have ever scene.

I did notice that the Walnut Stock Savage Recoil pad was basically a piece of hard rubber though.

I have a Savage Model 10 PC in .308 with Savage new P.A.D recoil pad. It feel's nice and soft to the touch. But I can't say that it work's better then any of my Paychmar or Limbsaver pad's. When shooting, it feel's too soft and you can sometime's feel the edge of the synthetic stock bitting into you, and that's only with a .308. I bet you the Walnut version with hard rubber will kick less then any synthetic stock with a better pad. But that's just my opinion on it. I've started to hate all these cheap synthetic stock's. :stirthepot2:

I bought that exact gun this year. I have a Bushnell 3x9x50 Firefly on it. I am shooting 180 gr Accubond with 70 g of IMR 4350. It is driving tacks at the range. Gun shoots better than me for sure. Pad seems pretty good to me, I might put a limbsaver on it next year. You won't be disapointed with the gun for the money spent.

Does anyone know a good set-up of Base, and Rings for the Savage???? I wanted silver, if it matters. Just wondering what set-up you guys are using with this rifle????

I run standard leupolds, and burris at the moment. I had good luck with the Talley Lightweights (ring and mount in one piece). I have a set new in box, silver (in low) I'd sell ya if you wanted them.

Leupold bases and rings are avalible in silver and they are reasonable in price, and easy to find. As for the savages, I've heard nothing but good things. Personally I can't stand them though, I just find savages clumsy. Oh well, to each their own.

i have the same gun, and the same scope, and IMO it looks OK with the black matte. silver rings/scopes have always looked tacky to me.
my Savage 16 is in .308 though, and before the AccuStock came out :(
i added the larger tactical bolt handle, modified the stock and bedded it. Warne bases and low Burris Zee rings. i bought this mainly as a budget foul weather/winter gun -- if you will be using this with gloves, i recommend the larger bolt handle. the tactical bolt is also longer, and helps give you more clearance by low mounted scopes like this.

i get ~MOA with most factory ammo, the gun would likely do better but i only use factory ammo (do not reload), and i am not the greatest shot. the only problem i had with it is the little tab on the mag broke off (apparently a common problem), but i called Savage and they sent me a new mag box by courier 2 days later - no problems since.

Thanks Manbearpig, I will have to take extra care when dealing with the Magazine. I did'nt know about the Tab being prone to breaking off.

If the Tab broke off in the field, would the magazine fall out, and turn the rifle into a single shot?? Or would it just make it difficult for the magazine to be taken out??

Sorry for sounding stupid with the question, but I don't have the rifle in my posession yet to look at it for a reference.( It is bought and paid for, from Ellwood Epps, but it is on back order from Savage arms )

when mine broke, the mag still kindof stayed in the magwell it was just loose and could fall out. so i duct-taped it in until i got back home and could call Savage. they will send you a replacement mag box no problem though.
so just carry some duct tape (which you should do all the time anyway) :). i have at least 3-4 feet of duct tape wrapped around a pencil stub in my pack at all times.

the tab breaking is a common problem but the way i loaded the mag could have aggravated it. most people will just push the mag straight into the gun. to minimize the chances of the little tab at the back breaking off, you should tilt the mag in from the back first (the reverse of how you would insert a mag into an M1A).

I just got this in the mail today :) 116 FCSS 30.06 Accustock Bushnell Elite 3200 3X9 And a nice Savage sling came with it...(thanks again ) Got it off the E.E and I am really impressed so far . So the mag release gets broken off easily ? Thanks for the tip..The recoil pad on mine is very soft as well ..
I will get out to the range soon to try it out but so far I like the accutrigger...I am getting into reloading soon but for now I have to stick to factory ammo..

I was disappointed. The disassembly and assembly is dumb. Mag release must be held to access screw. Bolt release must be held to access screw. Tricky to reassemble. Recoil lug does not remotely match size of recoil lug, looks like crap to me. Recoil pad too soft and flimsy, I`m sure it will peel off sooner than later.

Shoots very well though. Detachable mag and bottom metal is real nice.
