Have any of you used the Savage 11G in .223? How's the accuracy? I'm thinking it would make a good walking coyote gun. What do you think?

It's hard to beat a Savage, any of 'em, for out of the box accuracy. However, the best accuracy will depend on the ammo. If you don't reload, you'll have to try as many brands and bullet weights as you can to find the one or two your rifle shoots best. Don't worry about sighting in until you've found that ammo. Look into commercial FMJ's if you're planning on keeping the hides. Varmint bullets will tear up the hide too much.

The WRONG bullet will tear up the hhide too muuch.
Speer TNT's work very well for handloading, and thhe lighter 45 grain factory stuff worrks not bad eoither.
One hole in , none coming out.
The Blitzking, etc, are a bit too tough and do exit, as do FMJ's

I disagree with the accuracy statement... I have shot a ton of Savage rifles and they are accurate enough. But they are no more accurate than any other rifle in the price range and certainly not even close to the average Tikka for accuracy. If you want a really accurate and light walking around coyote rifle get a Tikka T-3 lite.

I'll take that bet...

That Savage will be a great coyote rifle and the .223 is a super coyote round with a proper bullet. Im shooting a Stevens in a .223 that is honestly my most accurate gun Ive ever owned. I don't like the bind mag and its ugly but is will shoot the lights out ;)
Ive spent many hours researching good bullets and have come to the conclusion that majority of hide hunter stay away from V-Max bullets and use the 52 gr. Sierra HP's or the Berger 50 gr Varmint match HP's. I just bought 2 Box's of the Berger 50's and will give a report later this week.
I ve got 5 coyotes in my shed waiting to go to the buyer and have some nasty holes from V-Max that will lessen the value of each coyote.

Cheers!!
