I recently sold my 10Fp 308 and am in the market for a new 308 tactical/Varmint rifle to tinker with.
I can honestly say I was impressed with my 10FPLE2 however not overly. I come from a bench rest shooting starting point and however not compairing a BR gun to a tactical gun my 10Fp did not shoot overly well 1-to 1 1/4 groups at 100 yrds and trust my I tried everything I mean everthing.
All things conciderd I and in the market and looking at 3 rifles, Rem Varmint, Tikka Varmint and the sav 12BVSS-S that I am leaning towards.
The rem action I like the best however any experience with there guns would be helpful.
Thank You
Jay

"...not compairing a BR gun to a tactical..." That's good as there's no such thing as a 'tactical' rifle.
"...1-to 1 1/4 groups at 100 yrds..." Think hunting accuracy. One inch to one and a quarter is excellent accuracy for hunting. If you didn't work up a load, do so. You'll likely bring the groups under an inch.
The Remington and Tikka will cost you a bunch more money compared to the Savage. It's really a Ford vs Chevy thing.

I have a 12BVSS-S in .223. The action on the single shot is very rigid. The barrel on my .223 is easily MOA with factory ammo, sub MOA with handloads. The laminate stock is heavy and shows no flex. The accutrigger is better than the Remington's trigger out of the box. It is a heavy rifle and not much fun to hike around in the fields with, but off a bipod it is hard to beat. I have had no problems with the rifle.

I own a 12BVSS in .223 set in a choate Ultimate sniper stock. This thing is a tack driver. Best bang for the buck in my opinion. As sharp said it is a heavy gun to pack in the bush, but if you still hunt off a bipod it is an awsome rig. You wont be disapointed in your purchase.

Space ace I would have to go dig up the reciepts but if I remember right all included Savage bvss model 12, bushnell elite 4200 mil-dot, choate super sniper stock, Harris bipod all came to around $2500 + or - a few. I picked it all up at P&D Enterprised in Edmonton, good people to deal with if you are looking for that type of package. Phil and Dianne.

Does any one know how long the throat is on a Savage bvss model 12 .223 or how much free bore there is to the lands? What is your C.O.L for a hornady 60gr A-Max if you are just tuching the lands?
