yup had millet windage adjustable ones on it......your right it could be the drill and tap on the receiver. IMO if the rifle is the source of the issue then I don't want it I paid $1000 for a rifle that has a defect in it no freekin way!.....I shouldn't have to put an extra dime out of my pocket to make it hit paper......Hell I could buy a $399 stevens and it would at least hit the freekin paper.....lol.....
I have seen sights mounted crooked on Savage rifles unfortunately. They go through the same assembly line as the Stevens to the high end models. If it is not the scope you can try some Burris Signature rings with an insert kit to offset the problem.
I have never seen nor heard of Savage holes being off, all the holes top and bottom are drilled simultaneously with a special machine. The lug, the action face [on all but the new ones with digital numbers engraved under the tang], are off a bit but it sounds like your barrel is screwed. I would take it back if I could, if not have a gunsmith diagnose the problem then contact Savage.
Well went to the range with the new scope and we are still off big time 1.5ft at 25yds and I'm out of windage.......Doesn't seem like the shop wants to do much they just gave me the rep's phone number and hung up......I'm not very happy at this point I've spent over $2k on a rifle and scope and my $45 cooey with open sights shoots better.....The shop I bought the scope off of said if I got the rifle from them they would purchase the same or a simular rifle of my choice from another shop and give me that even if it was a bit more......but the shop I got the rifle from doesn't seem interested in helping like that.....
I have the Leupold windage base and rings on a Tikka 22-250. They are like 70 bucks or something like that. I would try them. Center your scopes windage and just use the base to get your windage zero. If you still have your millet rings give them a try. You should be able to fix the offset of the receiver holes by using the rings. The way I did it was to loosen the side I want to move the scope toward about one turn and then just tighten up the opposite side. Once you do that for one turn see how much you POI changed and then you should get a rough idea of how many turns you need to get you back on paper. Shoot me a P.M. if you would like. I also have a couple other things you could try.
Nope not wasting another dime on this rifle I'm pissed right off now!....I spoke to the area rep who is no help what so ever wants me to box the gun up and ship it off for warranty at my own expense could take 4-8wks to get it back depending on the issue. Rep said it could be the barrel or the drill and tap for the bases and there is no way if its the barrel that I'm going to try and correct it with adjustable rings. The only way to know is to be with out the rifle for months no thanks. I bought it 6days ago I want my money back or I want a replacement in a timely manner I'm not waiting months for a gun with issues that are no fault of mine and I shouldn't be expected to. I have escalated the issue to a higher up and am awaiting a reply. If Savage is going to dink me around then I'll send it off for repair but I'll be buying another rifle in the mean time and it wont be a savage and when the 12FVSS comes back it will be sold off....and I'll make sure everyone I talk to knows what crappy service Savage gives after you spend $1k on a damaged rifle.....
This is about the principal of the issue that Savage should do what it takes to make it right not put all the burden of their failed product on the customer. Why should I have to cover the $60+tax in wasted ammo this rifle has cost me? why should I have to cover the $35 in fuel it has cost going to various shops and to the range not to mention the hours of my wasted time driving back and forth. Why should I have to cover shipping on this rifle to the gun smith and why should I be with out my rifle for up to 2mths for a problem that is not my fault on a rifle that was purchased only 6days ago!.....
Sorry for the rant I'm a little ticked as you can tell....lol
What are you talking about? Did you contact Savage Arms? Sounds like you went to the place you bought the rifle, they have NOTHING to do with Savage. Savage will fix you up if its a gun problem, they have fantastic customer relations and are super to deal with. If your dealer is unwilling to help, find another dealer.
I called the Dealer they gave me the # for the area sales rep Ross I called him and boy that guy is ignorant I call and leave him a lengthy detailed message not angry nothing just describe the problem that's all. He returns my call and I say "hello" to which he replies "who's this and what did you want"......excuse me? you just called me shouldn't you have listened to my message......anyway after explaining it all over again to him he says I got to ship the rifle to their gun smith who will confirm the issue and order the parts needed and if they had to come from the U.S. I could be with out my rifle for quite some time.....I say this is not acceptable why can't we find the same rifle at another dealer and swap it out and let Savage deal with the down time and he basically says ok enjoy your broken rifle cause I'm not going to do anything else for ya. Well I say thanks for your time I'll make a few more phone calls.....I call up Joe head of customer service for Savage and they are currently in the process of tracking down a replacement rifle to UPS to me.......So yes your right Savage does have good service just not from their sales reps Joe even stayed late at work yesterday to make calls and find me a new gun top notch guy!....
Well here's another update after speaking with Joe and Ernie from Savage they tracked me down a new rifle. I'm just heading out to pick it up now and drop off this rifle to their Lakefield factory.
They got me a 12BVSS and are swapping it for the broken FVSS at no extra charge now that's customer service I'm happy that Savage made this right shows their serious about their products.
Well just got home from my trip to Savage Arms and Ellwood Epps I must say this BVSS is looking mighty nice!. I'm going to mount up my scope tomorrow and depending if my wife pops or not her due Date was the 9th.....lol.....I'll try to get it sighted in if she lets me.
I'll post my results!
The waste of time and ammo is not a huge deal now that the issue has been taken care of....It would have been a bigger kick in the nuts if I had to send the rifle out for 3mths for repair on top of all the BS I already went through if that happened it would have been my last Savage rifle!...But now that I know Savage stands behind their rifles I have no problem buying another Savage in the future.
Well I'm glad that everything worked out in the end. And you will love the BVSS!!
Its good to hear that a company now-a-days still stands behind there products.
Good luck!
Nice to hear getting support from Savage. Their dealings with me have been excellent too - not that I have much reason about warranty work.
Do consider bedding that action in the stock. I love the BVSS stock but, like all modern stocks, inletting is way too generous. Consistency will greatly improve once bedded.
Thanks for the advice Jerry I will be bedding it shortly I'm going to shoot it first to see if there is a difference and I'll post pics so people can see the what a difference it makes.
I never got a chance to hit the range today but possibly tomorrow.
Where did you buy the original rifle and scope from? Good luck with your new rifle, I have the BVSS in .223, like it, and did benefit from a bedding job. I would like to sand the palm swell out of it though.
