Savage 12FVSS advise?

If you can wait, and it might be a very long wait, Savage has just released a new 'simple' varminter called the Model 25. An upgraded model 40, it looks like their rimfire actions on steroids. Det mag. press fit barrel, accutrigger, lam/wood stock in various shapes.

SUPPOSED to be a value pricing placing it between the Stevens and Savage. My SWAG would put it around $600. Not bad given the bells and whistles included. A comparable Savage would be up to $1000.

These are brand new so there is zero info on them as far as accuracy, function, etc. however, since they are an upgraded Model 40, we can suggest accuracy is more then adequate for varminting.

Unlike the Savage/Stevens, the action is a dead end design. You buy it to shoot it as is - with proper bedding and a trigger tune of course. Looks pretty good.

Wholesale Sports (Edmonton) had one up on the wall the other day. I assume if they have one the Calgary store does too.

You're kidding? I was in there last week asking about this model and they told me they were pretty sure that model had been discontinued.

I knew it wasn't but didn't feel like arguing.

Hi Jeff. The guy at Wholesale, as you stated was wrong. The FVSS is in current 2008 production. I guess it is just who you get at the gun counter.

I know SIR Winnipeg has 10+ of the Model 12F/TR in .308 on back order but the Model 12 LRPV is gone before it hits the store. I have yet to get my hands on one but I stopped looking too hard when I picked up my 12Fvss. The Low Profile mod 12 is just as hard to touch at any store Got to be quick when you hear of one on the shelfs

Have you seen the Savage Low Profile Varminter rifles anywhere? I'd sure like to see one in real life...

When I bought mine, Whole sale in calgary had a couple but that was before new years but it might be worth a call here is pic of mine

Here's my VLP in .223.
It shoots the best with 69gr. Sierra Matchkings HPBT.
I am relatively new to shooting rifles,but I find it very easy to
shoot this rifle accurately.
My best 5 shot group at 100 yds. so far has been 3/8in.
I would buy this rifle again without hesitation.

I too don't understand what "dead end design" means, but would be interested to know and the price and what I percieve to be acuracy potential of the model 25 appeals to me as well.
