If you can wait, and it might be a very long wait, Savage has just released a new 'simple' varminter called the Model 25. An upgraded model 40, it looks like their rimfire actions on steroids. Det mag. press fit barrel, accutrigger, lam/wood stock in various shapes.
SUPPOSED to be a value pricing placing it between the Stevens and Savage. My SWAG would put it around $600. Not bad given the bells and whistles included. A comparable Savage would be up to $1000.
These are brand new so there is zero info on them as far as accuracy, function, etc. however, since they are an upgraded Model 40, we can suggest accuracy is more then adequate for varminting.
Unlike the Savage/Stevens, the action is a dead end design. You buy it to shoot it as is - with proper bedding and a trigger tune of course. Looks pretty good.
