Local store has 2 of these in stock but not in caliber I want (.223).
Found an online source, just waiting on reply about availability.
Anybody have any info on what these rifles are like?
They are a handsome unit. When did Savage stop making them? Why?
Thanks for any info,
Glen

They still make them. Go to their web site for more information. I have a Model 16 in 308 and a Model 16FCSS in 223. If you have the extra cash go for the FCSS. It has a better magazine and magazine release. They both shoot very well and you'll love the accutrigger. The 16 is short action (223 and small cartridges) and 116 is long action (30:06, 270 etc).

I agree with going with an SS model... The Savage synthetic stocks are not known for being very good... The only one of mine I kept was an Accu-Stock SS in 7mm-08 that is a light carry rifle... I dropped the rest into Boyd's laminate thumbhole stocks... I like the heft and feel better now... I have no problems with the Savage push-feed actions and like the availability of drop in barrels.

I see that the model is available but I can only find it in the weather warrior synthetic. It is the wood stock model with stainless fluted model I am after.
Sorry, didn't provide enough info.
Glen
